If a Playwright screenshot captures fallback text or different line breaks because a web font is late, wait for the page’s used fonts before asserting the image. If a particular face must be present, explicitly load it and let the test fail if it cannot load. Then check that the baseline and test run use comparable rendering environments.
Wait for the fonts used by the page
After navigation—and after any action that introduces new text or font use—await the document’s font readiness promise before taking the screenshot:

await page.goto('/page-under-test');
await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot();
document.fonts.ready fulfills when loading and layout operations for fonts used by the document are complete. It does not promise that every font declared in CSS has loaded: a face that the page has not used may remain unloaded. See MDN’s Document.fonts reference.

Place the wait after the content whose appearance matters is on the page. If a click opens a dialog, expands a panel, or otherwise adds text, wait again after that action before capturing:

await page.getByRole('button', { name: 'Open checkout' }).click();
await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot();
Use a font-specific readiness signal rather than adding an arbitrary delay. Playwright discourages using networkidle as a general testing readiness criterion and recommends web assertions; see the Playwright Page API.
Require a particular face when the screenshot depends on it
When the screenshot must use a known typeface, request it explicitly with a CSS font shorthand and representative text from the capture. FontFaceSet.load() forces matching faces to load and returns a promise that rejects if loading fails:

await page.goto('/page-under-test');
await page.evaluate(async () => {
await document.fonts.load('16px "Brand Sans"', 'Checkout total');
});
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot();
Choose text that represents the glyphs the screenshot needs. A face may have multiple weights or styles, and text can require different glyph coverage; match the requested face and sample content to the rendered UI. See MDN’s FontFaceSet.load() reference.

You can combine an explicit load with the document readiness wait when the page also uses other fonts:

- Clear visuals. Fluid motion: A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT deliver smooth, tear‑free motion across work, gaming, and streaming for clearer, more fluid viewing.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star* certification reduces harmful blue light while preserving stunning color quality without compromise. *TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification.
- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
await page.evaluate(async () => {
await document.fonts.load('16px "Brand Sans"', 'Checkout total');
await document.fonts.ready;
});
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot();
The explicit load is especially useful if normal visible page text does not trigger the face needed by the screenshot, or if a test should fail clearly when that required face is unavailable.
Diagnose whether the issue is timing, delivery, or a fallback face
- Inspect the failure first. Open the expected, actual, and diff images to see whether the discrepancy is typography, layout, or a broader page change. Playwright’s Trace Viewer can help review screenshot diffs and the actual and expected images.
- Add a font-ready wait at the point of capture. Await
document.fonts.readyafter navigation and again after UI changes that introduce relevant text. - Force-load a required face if needed. Call
document.fonts.load()with the intended CSS shorthand and representative text. If it rejects, treat that as a font-loading failure, not a reason to loosen the screenshot comparison. - Investigate delivery and declarations. Check the app’s font URL and response, its
@font-facefamily, weight, and style declarations, plus console and network errors. These are practical places to look when an explicit load rejects; the specific cause depends on the application. - Compare the rendering environments. Check browser version, operating system, browser settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode between baseline generation and the test run. Playwright identifies these as sources of rendering variation and notes that screenshots may differ across browsers, platforms, and fonts. See Playwright’s visual comparisons guide.
- Only then adjust image tolerances. Playwright supports threshold and pixel-difference options, but a looser threshold cannot make a missing or late font appear. See Playwright’s PageAssertions documentation.
Do not treat font checks or screenshot retries as proof of font readiness
document.fonts.check() is not a reliable test that a named custom family exists or loaded. It does not initiate loads, and it can return true when the named family is absent from the font set because no unloaded face from that set is needed to render. Use document.fonts.load() when you need to request a face and have the test detect a loading failure. MDN explains this behavior in its FontFaceSet.check() documentation.

- SMOOTH PERFORMANCE FOR SEAMLESS CONTENT: Stay in the action when playing games, watching videos, or working on creative projects; The 100Hz refresh rate reduces lag and motion blur so you don't miss a thing in fast-paced moments¹
- MORE GAMING POWER: Gain the edge with optimizable game settings; Color and image contrast can be adjusted to see scenes more vividly and spot enemies hiding in the dark; Game Mode adjusts any game to fill the screen so you can view every detail²
- KEEP IT EASY ON THE EYES: Care for your eyes and stay comfortable, even during long sessions; Advanced eye comfort technology certified by TÜV reduces eye strain by minimizing blue light and reducing irritating screen flicker²
- INCREASED VERSATILITY: Connect to more; Plug devices straight into your monitor for increased flexibility, making your computing environment even more convenient
toHaveScreenshot() retries until two consecutive page screenshots match, then compares the result with the baseline. That stabilizes visual capture, but Playwright does not document it as a guarantee that web fonts are ready. If a font timing race is suspected, add the font-specific wait yourself; see PageAssertions.

If you need a screenshot outside a Playwright test, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server: one GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its clean-shot steps accept cookie or consent banners like a visitor, then remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP server tools: take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.

Keep baselines comparable across runs
A font-ready page can still render differently if the environment differs from the one that produced the baseline. Keep browser, operating system, browser settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode consistent where practical. If your Playwright projects intentionally target different browsers or platforms, maintain separate baselines rather than assuming their font rasterization will match. Revisit threshold settings only after the required face loads and the comparison environment is appropriate.
