A PlayStation Store DLC problem usually has a specific cause: the purchase belongs to a different account, the add-on was never started from the game’s library page, the console lacks space, a disc and account use different regions, or the license has not synchronized. Check those causes in that order before buying the content again or reinstalling the game.
First confirm the transaction on the account that purchased or redeemed the DLC. Then open the base game’s add-on list, check the download queue, storage, network, service status and region compatibility, and restore licenses. The exact menu names differ between PS5 and PS4, so follow the platform-specific paths below.

Identify which DLC problem you have
“DLC won’t download” can describe several different failures. Identify the symptom before changing settings; a missing purchase needs a different check from a download that is paused or an add-on that downloaded but is not usable in the game.

Do not repeat a purchase until the account’s transaction history proves that the first transaction did not complete. A second purchase can leave you paying for the same content twice without fixing installation.

1. Verify the purchase, account and entitlement
Use the account that bought or redeemed the DLC
Sign in to the PlayStation account used for the purchase. A console can contain several users, but the entitlement is attached to the purchasing account. If another user bought the add-on, switch to that account for the download and license checks. After the entitlement is recognized, other users may be able to use the content according to the game and console’s sharing rules; the initial troubleshooting must still be performed from the owning account.
Check transaction history before buying again
Open the account’s transaction history and confirm that the DLC purchase is listed as completed. A pending, canceled or failed transaction does not create a usable entitlement. If the purchase is present, do not buy the item again: proceed to the base game and license checks. Keep the transaction date, item name and any order reference available if support is needed.
Check PlayStation Plus benefits
If the add-on or game came through a PlayStation Plus benefit rather than a permanent purchase, verify that the subscription is active and that the item is still available under the applicable benefit. A subscription entitlement can stop working when the subscription expires or when access to a catalog item ends. This is different from a failed download, so reinstalling will not restore an entitlement that is no longer active.

DLC is associated with a particular base game, edition and platform. Finding the item through the game’s own library page is more reliable than searching the store and assuming that a similar listing is the correct one.
PS5 path
- Open Game Library.
- Select Your Collection.
- Choose the base game.
- Open its Add-Ons section.
- Select the purchased DLC and confirm that it is downloaded or start the download from that page.
If the add-on is listed but not installed, start it there and then monitor Downloads/Uploads. If it does not appear at all, return to the account and transaction checks, then restore licenses.
PS4 path
- Open Library and select Purchased.
- Choose the base game.
- Open PlayStation Store and then Your Add-Ons.
- Locate the DLC and choose the download option.
Keep the base game installed while checking its add-ons. The store can show multiple editions, bundles or language versions; select the add-on that belongs to the installed edition.

Downloading is not the same as unlocking
Many add-ons do not appear immediately in the game’s opening area. A story expansion may require a particular chapter, an item may be delivered to an in-game mailbox, and a character or mission may appear only after a checkpoint or at a specified location. Read the game’s own description for its activation condition and reach that point before concluding that the installation failed. This limitation is controlled by the game, not by the PlayStation download queue.

Inspect and restart the queue
On PS5, open Downloads/Uploads from the control center or the relevant notification. On PS4, open Notifications, then Downloads. Pause the DLC, wait briefly, and resume it. A temporary queue or connection state can clear when the transfer is restarted.
If resuming does nothing, cancel or delete the failed queue entry and start the download again from the game’s Add-Ons page. Deleting a queue entry removes the incomplete transfer, not the purchase entitlement; the item can be downloaded again while the transaction remains on the account.
Check PlayStation service status
Before changing local settings, check the official PlayStation service-status page. A store, account or download outage can prevent an otherwise valid purchase from starting. If Sony reports a disruption, wait until the service recovers and retry rather than repeatedly canceling the queue.
Install available system software updates
Open the console’s system-software update area and install any available update. Store and licensing changes may require current system software, and an outdated console can fail before the transfer begins. Restart after the update has completed.
Confirm free storage and the required space
Check the console’s available storage in its storage settings. Then open the game or add-on’s product details and note the stated minimum space requirement. The console may need more working space than the final DLC size while it downloads, copies and installs. Delete or move an unrelated game, capture or application if necessary, and retry only after the required space is available.

Test the network connection
Run the console’s built-in internet-connection test. Look for a stable sign-in, internet connection and download path. If the test fails, reconnect the console to the network and retry later. A download that repeatedly pauses at different percentages points to an unstable connection or service interruption; a download that never appears in the queue points more strongly to account, entitlement or store-state issues.
4. Resolve “Waiting to install”
“Waiting to install” means the console has recognized a transfer or entitlement but has not completed the installation. Treat it differently from a download that never begins.
Check storage first
Open the storage settings and verify enough free space for the game and add-on. If space is marginal, remove an unused installation or move content to supported external storage, then restart the console and retry. A download can finish while installation remains blocked if the console cannot create the required temporary files.

Run the network test, inspect Downloads/Uploads on PS5 or Notifications > Downloads on PS4, and pause and resume the item. Clear a failed queue entry and initiate the add-on again from the base game’s add-on list if the status does not change.
Check disc and account regions
For a disc-based game, the disc’s licensed country or region must match the country or region of the account that obtained the DLC. A disc imported from another market can run the base game while making region-specific add-ons incompatible. Check the game case, disc labeling or retailer information and compare it with the account region. Do not assume that a matching language or the console’s physical location proves compatibility.
Digital base games do not have a physical disc-region check, but the add-on still must match the game’s edition and store region. A region mismatch is a compatibility problem, not a storage problem, so repeatedly downloading the same item will not correct it.

Restore licenses and restart
After storage, network and region checks, restore licenses and restart the console. This refreshes the account’s local entitlement information and can move an add-on from a waiting state to an installable state.

Sony identifies restoring licenses as a remedy for a missing game or add-on. Sony also states: “Please note, restoring licenses won’t affect your data.” It does not erase saved games or installed content.
PS5
- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other.
- Select Restore Licenses and confirm.
There is also a per-game route: from the home screen or Game Library, highlight the game, press the Options button, and choose Restore License when that option is shown.
PS4
- Open Settings.
- Select Account Management.
- Choose Restore Licenses.
- Select Restore.
When the process finishes, restart the console, return to the base game’s add-on list and retry the download or installation. Restoring a license cannot make an incompatible disc region work and cannot unlock content whose PlayStation Plus entitlement has expired.

Use increasingly disruptive actions only after confirming the purchase, account, edition, region, storage, network and service status. This order avoids deleting a working installation when the real problem is an entitlement mismatch.
Retry the download
Pause and resume the item once, then start it again from the game’s add-on page. Watch the queue for a change in status and note any error code exactly as displayed.
Delete the failed download and redownload
If the queue entry is incomplete or corrupted, cancel/delete that entry and download the DLC again. The purchase remains in transaction history, but the content must be transferred again. Ensure sufficient free storage before starting.
Rebuild the database in Safe Mode for persistent transfer errors
For a persistent transfer failure such as CE-106487-6, Sony’s guidance includes rebuilding the database in Safe Mode after restoring licenses and deleting the failed download. Use this as a later troubleshooting step, not as the first response to a missing purchase. Follow the console’s official Safe Mode instructions precisely; interrupting power while the console is processing storage can create additional problems.
Reinstall the game and add-on last
If the add-on still reports “Waiting to install” after the preceding checks, delete and reinstall the game and its add-on. Reinstallation requires downloading the content again, so it can consume significant time and bandwidth. Confirm that saved data is synchronized or backed up according to your normal backup method before deleting an installation. Reinstalling cannot resolve a wrong account, an expired subscription entitlement or a disc-region mismatch.

7. What to do when the DLC downloaded but is missing in-game
Confirm the add-on’s installed state
Return to the base game’s add-on page and verify that the specific item is installed, not merely purchased. Some editions separate the download of a small license file from the larger game content, so check each listed item associated with the DLC.
Launch the correct base game
Make sure you are launching the same edition and platform for which the DLC was purchased. A PS4 and PS5 version can appear under one franchise name while using separate add-on entitlements. Likewise, a standard, deluxe or regional edition may not accept every bundle item.
Meet the game’s activation condition
Read the DLC description for the required quest, checkpoint, menu or in-game location. Restart the game after installation and load the appropriate save. If the content is delivered through an in-game vendor, mailbox, menu or map marker, visit that location rather than expecting a new icon on the console home screen.
8. Use a symptom-based decision path
- Purchase missing: sign in to the purchasing account, inspect transaction history and check any PlayStation Plus entitlement.
- Purchase present but add-on absent: open the base game’s library add-ons page, restore licenses and verify the game edition.
- Download queued or stuck: inspect the queue, pause/resume, check service status, update system software, verify storage and test the network.
- Waiting to install: check storage and network, confirm disc/account region compatibility, restore licenses and restart.
- Still failing: delete the failed download and retry; then consider Safe Mode database rebuilding or reinstalling.
- Downloaded but not visible in-game: confirm installed status, launch the matching base game and satisfy the game’s progression or location requirement.
9. Contact PlayStation Support with useful details
Escalate when the transaction is complete, the account and region are correct, storage and network tests pass, licenses have been restored and a fresh download still fails. Check the service-status page immediately before contacting support; an outage may need to end first.

Provide:
- The console generation: PS5 or PS4.
- The base game title, edition and whether it is digital or disc-based.
- The exact DLC name and the account that purchased or redeemed it.
- The transaction date and confirmation that it appears in account history.
- The exact error code or status message.
- The date and time of the failed attempt.
- The steps that reproduce the problem, including whether restoring licenses and redownloading changed anything.
- A screenshot or video of the queue, error or missing add-on when available.
These details let support distinguish a store entitlement issue from a local installation, region or game-activation issue without asking you to repeat every basic check.
Prevent the problem from recurring
- Buy or redeem DLC while signed in to the account that will own it, and retain the transaction confirmation.
- Check the base game’s edition and region before purchasing an add-on for a disc copy.
- Keep enough free storage for both the stated DLC requirement and installation overhead.
- Install pending system-software updates before starting a large download.
- After downloading, check the game’s instructions for its unlock checkpoint or delivery location.
- Record an error code and the time of failure instead of repeatedly retrying without changing conditions.
When a purchase refund or replacement is the real issue
If transaction history does not show a completed purchase, the payment may be pending or failed rather than missing from the console. If the history shows a completed transaction but the account cannot access the item after the official checks, support can investigate the entitlement. Do not treat a second purchase as a diagnostic step: it changes the billing record while leaving the original account or compatibility problem unresolved.
