First identify where the connection fails: the Portal may be unable to join Wi-Fi, unable to reach your PS5, or connected to a Remote Play session that stutters or drops. Those problems have different fixes. Work through the checks below in that order, starting with the device or connection that is actually failing.
1. If the Portal cannot join Wi-Fi
- Check another device. Connect a phone or computer to the same Wi-Fi network. If that device also cannot get online, contact your internet service provider.
- Review the Portal’s network settings. Swipe left from the upper-right corner to open Quick Menu, then look for Settings > Network or Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection. The wording can vary by software version or locale. Review the selected network and enter its details again if needed.
- Test the signal and network load. Move closer to the router or access point, and, if many devices are connected, disconnect some temporarily. Try another Wi-Fi network if one is available.
- Check the exact error code. PlayStation identifies 0x83200111 and 0x8320011A as Portal Wi-Fi connection errors. Follow the guidance for the code shown; one code’s explanation should not be assumed to apply to every network problem.
2. Update or restart the Portal
Make sure the Portal’s system software is up to date. Then try a normal restart: hold the power button and select Restart. If you cannot use the menu, hold the power button until the device turns off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it on again.

3. If the Portal is online but cannot connect to the PS5
- On the PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play and turn on Enable Remote Play.
- Check that the PS5 is online and that the same account is signed in on the Portal and PS5.
- If you want to connect while the PS5 is in Rest Mode, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode. Enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
- If the Portal has not connected in a while, first test it near the PS5. Once it connects there, try connecting from outside your home.

4. If Remote Play starts but lags or disconnects
A session can connect successfully and still perform poorly. PlayStation’s published speed guidance is at least 5 Mbps upload and download as the minimum, with 15 Mbps upload and download recommended for best performance. These are PlayStation Support’s thresholds, not a guarantee of smooth play: stability, latency, congestion, and Wi-Fi conditions also affect the stream. - Pause downloads on other devices sharing the network.
- Move the Portal and PS5 closer to the router, and reduce obstacles between Wi-Fi devices and the access point.
- Try connecting the PS5 to the router with Ethernet. This is an optional troubleshooting test, not a guaranteed fix; it is practical only if the console and router can be connected by cable.
If the option is available in the installed Portal software, open Quick Menu > Troubleshoot > Show Network Status to inspect network status. PlayStation lists this feature on its Portal features page.

5. Check network restrictions and service status
For persistent connection failures, PlayStation’s general Remote Play guidance says Remote Play uses UDP port 8572 and warns that a network using NAT Type 3 may prevent Remote Play. This is general Remote Play guidance, not a universal Portal router recipe. If you suspect a port or NAT restriction, ask your internet provider, mobile carrier, or router manufacturer for help rather than applying an unverified port-forwarding configuration.
Public Wi-Fi can have restrictions that home networks do not. PlayStation notes that, to comply with regulations in some countries and regions, the Portal might not support certain public networks, including some 5 GHz networks. If a public network fails, try another network and ask its administrator about restrictions; one failed hotspot does not establish that the Portal is defective.

Check PlayStation service status if the problem persists; if there is an alert, wait for service to recover and try again. If Wi-Fi fails on several devices, contact your ISP. If the Portal alone continues to fail across networks after software and settings checks, use PlayStation Support’s Portal troubleshooting and repair options.
