Start by identifying what is failing: a download that will not begin, an installed game that will not launch, or a padlock or message saying your account cannot confirm access. Each points to a different fix. Check service status and the right account first; then use the matching steps below for PS5 or PS4.
First, match the fix to the symptom

A download-queue fix cannot grant an account access to a game, and restoring a license will not necessarily fix a stalled network transfer. If PlayStation reports a service alert, wait for service to return before repeatedly retrying.

If a PlayStation Plus game will not download
Resume or restart the download task
- On PS5, open Downloads/Uploads from Control Center, select the game, and choose Pause, then Resume.
- If it remains stuck, cancel and delete the download task. Find the game again in Game Library and start the download.
- If the download still will not begin, check PlayStation Network status and install any available system software update.

Try a wired connection only when the transfer may be the problem
If the game is eligible to download but the transfer keeps failing, a wired network connection is an optional test when you delete and redownload it. Sony includes this in its game-launch troubleshooting sequence. It will not fix a missing subscription, an expired entitlement, or a game that has left the catalog.
If an installed game will not start
Restart and restore licenses
- Restart the PS5 or PS4 and try opening the game again.
- Restore licenses using the platform-specific path below.

Check storage and system software
- PS5: If the game is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the console’s internal storage for this troubleshooting path. Check for a system software update.
- PS4: If the game is on USB extended storage, make sure the drive is connected. Check for a system software update.

If restarting, license restoration, storage checks, and updates do not resolve the launch problem, follow Sony’s Safe Mode instructions for your console. On PS5, the listed options include clearing the cache and rebuilding the database; on PS4, Sony’s sequence includes rebuilding the database. These steps come after the simpler checks, not before.

Reinstalling system software is a later troubleshooting step. Back up your data before attempting it, and use Sony’s instructions rather than treating a factory reset as a routine fix.
If the game is locked or PlayStation Plus cannot confirm access
Check the account and entitlement
- Sign in to the account that obtained or redeemed the game, if applicable.
- Confirm that the PlayStation Plus subscription is active.
- If the title came from the Plus game catalog, check whether it is still available there. Catalog access is not the same as owning a game outright; a title that is no longer available may not remain playable through the catalog.

Check console sharing if another household account obtained the game
Some PlayStation Plus benefits can be shared on a console configured for sharing, but sharing is not equivalent to transferring the entitlement to another account. On PS5, check that Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on the console. On PS4, check that the account has activated the console as its primary PS4. Sony notes that monthly Plus downloads and catalog titles may be shared depending on membership plan; redeeming Plus games on another account and online storage are among the benefits that cannot be shared. Use the exact error code for network or license failures
Error messages can distinguish a failed download from a license or subscription problem. For example, Sony lists PS5 error CE-107928-7 for a game download that stopped, NP-104291-7 for failure to confirm content license information, and CE-107255-0 for inability to confirm a PlayStation Plus subscription. These codes are examples, not interchangeable diagnoses; look up the code shown on your console in Sony’s PS5 error-code list.

PS5 error CE-109258-5
Sony says this error can mean the server connection failed and content license information could not be confirmed. Its troubleshooting steps include checking PlayStation status, restarting the console, restarting the router or modem after waiting at least five minutes, restoring licenses, and trying again later. Follow the dedicated CE-109258-5 instructions.
PS4 error WS-46332-8
Sony describes WS-46332-8 as PlayStation Plus content being unable to download. The listed steps are to restart the console, restore licenses, power off and restart after a few minutes, and contact Support if the problem remains. See the WS-46332-8 support page.
When to contact PlayStation Support
If the matching steps do not fix the issue, record the exact error code or message and what you did immediately before it appeared. Include when you tried, plus a screenshot or video if available. Sony asks for error and reproduction details when escalating download or launch issues; start from the relevant download help page or game launch help page.
