Start with charge, Bluetooth, and the selected audio output; then check firmware, interference, fit, and charging-case indicators. Save forgetting and re-pairing or resetting the Pixel Buds Pro 2 for problems that persist after those simpler checks.
Fix connection problems and dropouts
Check charge, Bluetooth, and audio routing
- Charge both earbuds and the case. Google lists up to 8 hours of listening time from the earbuds with ANC on, or up to 12 hours with ANC off; with the case, the estimates are up to 30 hours with ANC on and up to 48 hours with ANC off. These are Google’s estimates, not guarantees; actual battery life depends on use and enabled features. A shorter result by itself does not establish a defect. Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 specifications.
- On your phone, tablet, or computer, make sure Bluetooth is on and the buds are close to the host device. Toggle Bluetooth off and back on, wait a few seconds, and select Pixel Buds Pro 2 in the device list if they do not reconnect.
- Check that the host is sending sound to the buds. Try another app or downloaded audio. If playback fails only while streaming, the Bluetooth connection may not be the cause: Google notes that switching between weak Wi-Fi and cellular data can affect streaming connectivity. Update firmware and reduce interference
Check for a Pixel Buds firmware update and keep the host device and Pixel Buds app current. On Pixel phones, the Quick Start Guide directs users to Pixel Settings for firmware updates; on other Android devices, use the Pixel Buds app. Computers can use the web companion app. Follow Google’s current instructions for your device rather than relying on a firmware version number that may have changed. If dropouts continue, move away from nearby devices that use the 2.4 GHz band, such as routers, wireless speakers, baby monitors, or microwave ovens. Reduce obstructions between the host and earbuds as well.

- Remove Pixel Buds Pro 2 from the host device’s Bluetooth list, then restart that device.
- Put both earbuds in the case and open the lid. Hold the case’s pairing button until the light blinks. This is the pairing action, not the longer reset procedure.
- On a Pixel or Android phone, follow the on-screen pairing prompt. On another Bluetooth computer, open its Bluetooth settings and select the buds.

Fix no sound, one-sided audio, or poor call quality
Check output, app controls, charge, and firmware
Confirm the host is routing audio to the buds, the volume is audible, and the app itself is playing sound. Some apps do not use earbud touch controls, so test playback and volume in the app rather than assuming a touch-control problem means the earbuds are disconnected. Check that both buds are charged and that firmware is current.
If sound is intermittent, put both earbuds in the case for one minute, then try again. Test downloaded audio or another app to separate streaming trouble from an earbud issue, and keep the buds close to the host.

Inspect the mesh and fit
For quiet or uneven sound, gently brush debris from the mesh areas. Do not insert objects into speaker or microphone openings or poke debris farther inside. Check that the eartips seal comfortably; a poor seal can weaken bass. Also check the earbud fit, cleanliness, and equalizer settings if bass sounds weak. Google’s audio troubleshooting and cleaning guidance covers these checks.

Diagnose Pixel Buds Pro 2 charging problems
Seat each earbud correctly and read the light
Place each bud in its matching L/R position and rotate it until the case magnet holds it in place. Google says a chime indicates correct insertion on Pixel Buds Pro 2. With the lid open, the earbud status light indicates charge:
- Solid white: the earbuds are fully charged.
- Breathing white: one or both earbuds are charging while the case has more than 20% charge.
- Slow orange: some earbud charge remains while the case is below 20%.
With the case closed, the front light reports case status. When the case is plugged in, a breathing white light indicates that the case is charging. If no light appears, Google says the case may not have enough battery to charge the earbuds. See Google’s charging instructions.

Choose a charging method and check the accessories
| Method | What to check | When it helps |
|---|---|---|
| USB-C | Try a known-good USB-C cable and compatible power source. The case can charge with its lid open or closed. Check that the cable connectors and case port are dry and clear. | Useful for testing the cable, port, and power path. |
| Qi-certified wireless charger | Place the case on a Qi-certified charger and check its status light. | Provides an alternative charging path if USB-C charging is not working. |
Use compatible USB-C Power Delivery equipment or Google-authorized charging equipment. Google warns that incompatible accessories can cause damage or safety hazards; do not try an arbitrary high-power or uncertified charger. Keep the port and connectors dry, and do not force anything into them. Google’s Pixel Buds Pro 2 safety guidance.

Reset only if the basic checks fail
Resetting removes saved settings, including the device name and preferences. First confirm that both buds are seated correctly: Google warns, “If buds aren’t placed correctly in the charging case, the reset process won’t begin.”
- Forget Pixel Buds Pro 2 in the host device’s Bluetooth settings.
- Connect the charging case to power, leave the lid open, and keep both earbuds inside.
- Hold the button on the back of the case for 30 seconds. Release it when the status light stops bouncing and turns off.
- Wait for the reset sequence to finish. The light blinks orange and white during reset, then bounces white when the buds are ready to pair.
- Pair the buds with the host again using the pairing steps above.
Google also requires a reset to transfer ownership of previously owned or refurbished Pixel Buds Pro 2 and enable Find Hub tracking. Follow the official reset directions if the light sequence differs or the reset does not start.
When to contact Google
If the buds still will not connect, play audio, or charge after these checks and a reset, use Google Pixel Buds customer support or its official lost-or-damaged replacement route. Service options, warranty terms, and replacement availability depend on region and current conditions.
