If several lights are offline, start with the Bridge and its network connection. If only one light is missing, check its power and try adding it again before resetting anything.
Identify how the light connects
Hue lights may be controlled through a Bridge using Zigbee, directly from a phone over Bluetooth on supported models, or through a compatible Matter controller on supported products. The steps for one connection path may not apply to another. If you are unsure, check how the light was originally set up in the Hue app and verify that the exact light model supports the connection method you are trying to use.

With a Bridge-based setup, Hue lights can relay the Zigbee signal to extend the network. Philips Hue describes each light as a repeater. Bluetooth is a direct, in-room connection; a Bridge-based system is intended to cover the home. Don’t assume that a light that cannot be reached over Bluetooth is also offline from its Bridge, or vice versa.

Read the Bridge LEDs
Confirm that the Bridge has power, then check its indicator lights. Philips identifies the left LED as power, the middle LED as the router connection, and the right LED as the internet connection. Note which light is not solid: this helps distinguish a power problem from a router or internet connection problem.

Check the wired connection and restart
- Make sure the Bridge’s power cable is connected and that its Ethernet cable is firmly seated at both the Bridge and router ends.
- Restart the router and the Bridge. Philips’ connection guide specifies disconnecting them from power for 30 seconds before reconnecting.
- Wait for the Bridge to start and check its LEDs again. If it still cannot connect, try a primary LAN port on the router. During setup, temporarily disable a VPN or network filter if it could be blocking local-device connections.
The standard Hue Bridge connects to the router with Ethernet; it does not connect directly to Wi-Fi. Your phone can be on Wi-Fi while the Bridge is wired to the router. Philips documents both a standard Bridge and Bridge Pro, so check the documentation for your exact model before applying model-specific instructions.
If one light is missing, check power and add it again
- Confirm the light is receiving power. If it is controlled by a wall switch, make sure the switch is on; a Hue light cannot be reached while power to it is cut.
- Open the Hue app and use its device setup flow to add the light. Scan the light’s QR code when prompted.
- If you cannot scan a QR code, use the app’s search option or enter the light’s serial number, where available.
- For a Bluetooth setup, turn on Bluetooth on your phone before trying to add the light.
If you are using a compatible Matter controller rather than the Hue app or a Bridge, follow the setup and recovery steps for that controller and the exact light model. The Bridge and Bluetooth instructions above do not establish a universal Matter troubleshooting procedure.

Reset a light only after discovery steps fail
A light reset may help if the app still cannot discover it after you have checked power and tried the available add-device options. Philips lists several reset routes, including app procedures, serial-number search, compatible dimmer or Tap dial switch procedures, and a Bluetooth-mode app procedure. Which route applies depends on the light’s connection setup and the controls available to you; use the instructions for that model and setup.
A light reset erases customized settings and data. Try adding the light again before resetting it, and use a reset procedure only when simpler discovery steps have failed.

Factory-reset the Bridge only as a last resort
Restarting or reconnecting the Bridge is a safer first step. A Bridge factory reset deletes saved rooms, lights, scenes, and routines, so you will need to set up the system again.
- Unplug the Bridge’s Ethernet cable.
- Use a paperclip or SIM-eject tool to press and hold the recessed reset button on the back for 5–10 seconds, until the LEDs blink.
- Wait for the first three LEDs to become solid blue.
- Reconnect the Bridge and set it up again in the Hue app.
When to contact Philips Hue support
If the light or Bridge remains offline after the relevant checks, contact Philips Hue support. Have the Bridge model and LED state ready, and note whether one light or several are affected, which app and device platform you use, and which steps you have already tried. Philips’ app FAQ includes a question about connection trouble, but its available page does not provide an answer to that question; use the separately provided setup, connection, or support options rather than assuming a hidden FAQ procedure.
