First, identify which OBS counter is rising. A rising Dropped Frames (Network) count points to the connection between your computer and the streaming service, or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. An Encoding Overloaded warning points instead to rendering or encoder capacity. If OBS shows no drops but viewers report buffering, investigate their playback conditions and platform transcoding.
These are different problems, so changing one setting at random can waste time or lower quality without fixing the cause. Use the checks below in order, and monitor the stream after each change. A 24/7 schedule does not have a separate OBS fix, and no setting guarantees an uninterrupted stream.

1. Check which problem OBS is reporting
Open OBS’s Statistics window and watch the counters while the problem occurs. OBS sends the stream directly from your computer to the streaming service; OBS does not route it through its own streaming servers. Its Help Portal explains that OBS drops frames to avoid buffering and keep the stream playing.

- Dropped Frames (Network) is increasing: troubleshoot upload capacity, the route to the service, and local network settings.
- Encoding Overloaded appears, or output is choppy while network drops stay low: troubleshoot rendering and encoding workload.
- OBS reports no drops, but viewers see buffering: check viewer devices and bandwidth, stream bitrate, and whether the platform is providing transcoding options.
The OBS Project says in its Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide, published September 30, 2024, that “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames.” That makes the counter a clue to diagnose the delivery path, not proof that OBS itself is defective.

2. Fix network-related dropped frames
Test the streaming-service route
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream and try another available server or ingest point for your streaming service.
- Run the stream long enough to see whether the dropped-frames counter still rises. If you can safely test another service, use it only to help determine whether the issue is specific to one service or network route—not as proof that the alternate service will solve a 24/7 reliability problem.
- If you stream to Twitch on Windows, OBS’s guide points to TwitchTest for comparing server quality. For other services, use only the server choices and diagnostics they provide.
Set a bitrate your connection can sustain
In Settings → Output → Streaming, lower the video bitrate and observe whether drops stop. The OBS Project’s 2024 connection guide suggests beginning around 75% of total upload speed. Treat that figure as a starting point, not a target that is safe for every connection: available upload speed can fluctuate, and the streaming service may impose its own limits. A lower bitrate can improve delivery stability, but may reduce picture quality.
For a meditation stream, make changes during a controlled test where possible. Keep a note of the original bitrate and change one setting at a time so you can tell which adjustment helped.

Check OBS network settings and other software
On Windows, OBS documents Network Optimizations and TCP pacing as settings to try. Check that Bind to IP is set to Default. As a diagnostic only, try IPv4 Only; if it makes no difference, restore the setting that allows both IPv4 and IPv6.

VPNs, security software, bundled network “optimization” tools, and outdated network drivers can contribute to connection problems. Do not leave security software disabled. If testing indicates it is interfering with OBS, add an OBS exception and re-enable protection. Avoid network-tweaking tools that might deprioritize OBS traffic.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Use a wired connection and inspect the path
OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi may be unstable. Connect the streaming computer to the router by Ethernet where practical, then restart the modem and router. If the problem persists, consider whether a cable, network card, router, switch, extender, or another device in the path could be faulty. Replace hardware only when diagnosis points to it; OBS advises contacting your ISP if you are unsure before replacing equipment.
Use Dynamic Bitrate only as a fallback
OBS’s beta Dynamic Bitrate option can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up. That may reduce network drops at the cost of video quality, but OBS describes it as a fallback, not a fix for the underlying cause. Continue investigating the connection rather than treating the feature as a guarantee for continuous streaming.

3. If OBS says “Encoding Overloaded”
This is the performance branch, not the network branch. The OBS Project’s Encoding Performance Troubleshooting guide, published June 12, 2021, recommends reducing workload when the computer cannot render or encode quickly enough.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Close applications that use substantial GPU resources.
- Simplify scenes and reduce costly filters or browser sources.
- If needed, lower the output resolution or frame rate.
- On Windows, try running OBS as administrator; OBS says this may help with GPU overload.
Make one adjustment at a time and check OBS again. Switching ingest servers is unlikely to resolve a rendering or encoder-capacity problem.

4. If viewers buffer but OBS shows no drops
Ask whether the problem affects all viewers or only particular devices or connections. Buffering can occur on the viewer side even when OBS’s dropped-frames counter remains clear. Check viewer bandwidth and playback devices, then consider whether the stream bitrate is too demanding or the platform is offering transcoding for the stream.
Reducing bitrate or output quality may help some viewers, but it also reduces the stream’s quality. The OBS Project’s Stream Buffering Troubleshooting guide, published June 9, 2021, treats viewer buffering as a distinct issue from OBS dropping frames.
5. When to involve your ISP
If wired networking, a lower sustainable bitrate, and local software checks do not stop network drops, the cause may be outside the computer or home network. OBS notes that congestion or routing changes can occur beyond your local setup. Contact your ISP with the times the issue occurs and the tests you have already tried; do not assume new hardware will correct an upstream routing or congestion problem.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep uploaded meditation videos playing on a YouTube channel 24/7, StreamNeo is a different setup from troubleshooting an OBS-to-platform connection: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so no home computer or connection has to stay on. It supports the video as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
