Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If OBS audio starts in sync but gradually slips during a long YouTube lofi stream, do not keep changing sync offsets at random. First determine whether the mismatch is fixed or accumulating, then identify whether it occurs in OBS monitoring, the program output, a local recording, or YouTube playback. Each points to a different part of the signal path.
First determine whether the delay is fixed or growing
Compare the same recognizable event near the beginning of the stream and later on. For lofi, use a clear beat paired with a visible animation change; a deliberate test marker can help if the content has no reliable visual cue. Note when the mismatch appears and how long the stream has been running.

- Roughly constant separation: Audio is consistently early or late. This is a fixed sync relationship, for which a sync offset may be appropriate.
- Separation grows over time: This is accumulating drift. A fixed offset cannot correct a timing difference that keeps changing; investigate device timing, sample rates, buffers, and system workload.
Do not assume either pattern identifies the root cause by itself. The cause in a particular setup depends on the OBS version, operating system, devices, routing, and which output is affected.

Find which output is out of sync
Check the same event in each relevant place rather than relying only on what you hear through headphones. Make a local recording while reproducing the problem, then compare it with OBS monitoring, the OBS program output, and YouTube playback or the resulting VOD.

| Where the mismatch appears | What to investigate first |
|---|---|
| OBS monitoring only | The monitoring device, its routing, and its buffering or timing behavior. |
| OBS program output and local recording | The sources, device timing, sample rates, and routing used by OBS. |
| YouTube playback or VOD, but not the local recording | The platform/output path. Keep both examples; do not blindly alter a local setting. |
| Only one monitoring or playback device | That device and its connection or clock behavior, tested separately from the rest of the chain. |
A 2023 OBS forum discussion describes one setup where a participant reported accumulating delay in the monitor device while describing stream and recording output differently. That is a report from an individual system, not a guarantee about how OBS monitoring behaves generally: OBS forum discussion on gradually worsening audio delay.
Inspect the audio chain and timing settings
Write down every source and device that contributes to the sound or monitoring path. Include music playback, a microphone if used, capture-device audio, virtual routing, and the physical device used to monitor the stream. Separate USB audio devices or a monitor with its own clock may behave differently from one another, but that possibility needs to be tested; it is not proof of a cause.

- Check OBS’s audio sample-rate setting against the settings of the devices in the chain. Keep the rates consistent where the devices and workflow allow it.
- Look for independent devices or clock domains: for example, separate USB audio devices, or a physical monitor whose timing differs from the source device.
- Review OBS logs and statistics for performance problems. Simplify routing as a controlled test rather than changing several settings at once.
- Change one major variable at a time and record what changed and whether the drift pattern changed.
A third-party OBS troubleshooting guide recommends consolidating sources through a single audio interface where practical. That is an optional, setup-dependent approach—not a required purchase or a universal fix. Consider it only if several independent devices are implicated and can actually be consolidated through a compatible interface: Restream’s OBS audio-delay troubleshooting guide.

If the mismatch is a stable offset
Adjust the sync offset for the relevant source, then check the output where you need synchronization. Do not copy an offset value from another setup; the appropriate value depends on the source and signal path. Confirm that the change is visible in a local recording and in the intended YouTube output.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
If the mismatch accumulates over time
Investigate device timing, sample-rate consistency, buffering, and workload before trying repeated offset changes. Use a simplified audio route as a controlled test, and review OBS logs and statistics. A sync offset changes a timing relationship; it does not remove an increasing timing difference.
An OBS forum participant suggested mismatched audio refresh rates or an underpowered computer as possibilities when timing varies. This is community troubleshooting advice, not an official diagnosis or proof that either issue is responsible in your stream: OBS forum discussion.

If monitoring drifts but the recording and stream do not
Test the monitoring device and its route separately. Monitor buffering or device-clock behavior are hypotheses raised in the forum discussion above; use comparisons from your own setup to determine whether they fit.
If the local recording is in sync but YouTube playback is not
Preserve a local recording and the corresponding YouTube example, including when the discrepancy becomes noticeable. Investigate the output path instead of changing a local OBS setting without evidence. YouTube’s audio guidance cited below concerns uploads, not a diagnosis or fix for live OBS streams.

If OBS reports dropped frames
Treat network delivery as a separate issue. OBS says dropped frames indicate connection instability or a bitrate-capacity problem; they do not, by themselves, establish the cause of audio drift. Troubleshoot the connection separately using OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Verify the result over a long-session reproduction
- Reproduce the conditions that caused the problem, including the same audio sources, monitoring device, routing, and approximate stream duration.
- Compare a recognizable event near the start and later in the session to see whether the separation remains stable or grows.
- Review the local recording and YouTube output, not just the OBS preview or monitoring sound.
- If you changed a device or driver, restart OBS and repeat the comparison under the original conditions.
YouTube’s upload recommendations say that audio and video tracks of unequal duration may not sync correctly and list 44.1 or 48 kHz sample-rate options. That guidance is about uploading content; it does not establish a live-stream repair: YouTube recommended upload encoding settings.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube lofi stream, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud rather than depending on OBS and a computer at home. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The stream continues with your computer off. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not go live from a camera and streams to YouTube only.
- Any quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, streaming the upload as made without re-encoding or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required; one free day per account.
