If Nintendo eShop will not open on your Switch, first check Nintendo’s network maintenance and operational status and your internet provider’s outage notices. Then note the exact error code and look it up on Nintendo Support before changing settings: error 2110-2215, for example, specifically indicates trouble connecting to a wireless access point, not every kind of eShop failure.
Start by checking whether Nintendo or your internet provider is having an outage
Check Nintendo’s network maintenance and operational-status page, then check your ISP’s service notices. Nintendo cautions that status updates can be delayed, so a page that appears unchanged does not prove there is no current incident.

If either service is reporting a problem, wait for it to clear before troubleshooting your console. A local Wi-Fi adjustment cannot fix a Nintendo service outage or an ISP outage upstream of your home network.

Look up the exact Switch error code
Write down the complete code shown on screen and search that code on Nintendo Support. Follow the instructions for that specific code rather than inferring its meaning from the digits.

What error 2110-2215 means
Nintendo describes error 2110-2215 as a failure to connect correctly to a wireless access point. Possible causes include incorrect internet settings, such as a wrong password, or unstable wireless conditions. Nintendo’s code-specific guidance recommends checking the settings, restarting the console and router or access point, updating software and router firmware, and improving wireless signal quality. This diagnosis does not apply automatically to other codes.
Check your Wi-Fi name, password, and signal
- Move the Switch close to the wireless router. Nintendo recommends placing it about 2–3 metres away during setup.
- On the HOME Menu, open System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings.
- Select your router’s SSID (network name) and enter its password carefully. Check capitalization and punctuation; consult the router label or documentation if you are unsure.
- Confirm that the console reports a successful connection. If it shows an error code, look up that exact code on Nintendo Support.
Moving closer is a way to test whether signal conditions are contributing to the problem; it does not, by itself, establish the root cause. Nintendo’s Wi-Fi setup guide gives the setup distance and menu path.

Restart and update the Switch, router, and modem
- Restart the console. A restart can clear a temporary problem. Use Nintendo’s restart instructions if the console is unresponsive.
- Restart the router and modem. The restart procedure varies by equipment, so follow the manufacturer’s instructions rather than using a generic button sequence.
- Check for Switch system updates. Open System Settings > System > System Update. If the installed version is not the latest, update it; use Nintendo’s current system-update history rather than relying on an old version number.
- Check router firmware. Follow the router manufacturer’s instructions to see whether an update is available and how to install it.
Nintendo includes these checks in its guidance for unstable internet connections and its 2110-2215 troubleshooting.

Use a wired test when you want to find out whether the problem is limited to Wi-Fi and your model and dock support it. The result can help isolate wireless trouble, but Ethernet will not fix a Nintendo outage, an upstream ISP failure, or an account issue.

Wired setup requirements depend on the console and dock. Nintendo says the OLED model’s included HEG-007 dock has a LAN port, while some other Switch configurations need a LAN adapter; Switch Lite needs additional equipment for a wired connection. A router and LAN cable are also required. Check Nintendo’s wired connection instructions for your model before buying or connecting hardware.
Optional: try a temporary DNS change
Nintendo says changing DNS settings may improve a connection. Treat this as an optional, reversible test: record the existing setting before changing it, and restore automatic or default DNS if the change does not help. The exact menu options can vary with the network setup; Nintendo’s connection guidance covers this step.

Check the selected user and Nintendo Account
A working internet connection is not the only eShop requirement. Nintendo says a Switch user must be linked to a Nintendo Account to launch the store. Confirm that you selected the user linked to the account you intend to use. Nintendo warns that a linked account cannot simply be switched to another account, so do not casually unlink or relink it while troubleshooting.
Nintendo’s cited eShop requirements page applies to accounts set to Japan. Check Nintendo Support for your own country or region for local access, payment, and prepaid-code rules rather than assuming Japan-specific details apply everywhere.

When to contact Nintendo Support
If the status checks, connection setup, restart and update steps, and relevant network-specific checks do not resolve the issue, contact Nintendo Support. Give them the full error code, your Switch model and connection type, what the console’s connection test reported, and any router or ISP details you can provide. Include whether another device can access the internet on the same network; that can help distinguish a console-specific symptom from a broader home-network problem.
