If those checks do not help, use the exact error message or code to choose the next step.
Try Nintendo’s basic access checks
- Reconnect and retry. Connect your Switch 2 to the internet, then try opening the NES Nintendo Classics library again. Nintendo recommends this as an initial step when a Nintendo Classics game library will not start. Nintendo’s troubleshooting instructions cover this issue.
- Verify the membership on the account being used. NES Nintendo Classics access is a Nintendo Switch Online benefit. Check that the Nintendo Account currently in use has an active Nintendo Switch Online or Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. Nintendo lists an active membership as required for access to NES, Super NES, and Game Boy Nintendo Classics. See the Nintendo Classics membership FAQ.
- Check for a service interruption. Look at Nintendo’s network-status guidance and check Nintendo’s network status page for maintenance or outages. If service is affected, retry once it is available.
If Switch 2 says it could not connect to the internet
Nintendo says NES and Super NES software may need an internet connection at startup to verify membership. For the specific message “Could not Connect to the Internet,” Nintendo UK advises restarting the console, connecting it to the internet, and opening the software again. Follow its connection-error instructions.

Offline play is possible, but membership verification is still required online at least once every seven days. If you have been playing offline longer than that, reconnect before launching the classic-games software. Nintendo also says save data remains on the console if a membership expires, but access to the classic games requires an active membership; see its FAQ.

The phrase “not loading” can mean the library will not open, the library opens but one game fails, or the software displays a connection or other error. Those situations do not establish a single cause. Note exactly where the failure happens and what the screen says before trying further fixes.

- The library itself will not open: prioritize internet access, the membership on the account being used, and Nintendo network status.
- The library opens but one game will not start: note whether other NES titles work and record the exact message or code. The general library-startup guidance may not identify the cause of a problem limited to one game.
- Only one account appears affected: verify the membership for the account in use. If the same problem occurs across accounts, keep that distinction in mind when contacting support; it is useful diagnostic information, not proof of a particular cause.
- The issue persists despite normal network status: record whether the failure is at library access or at an individual game, along with any error text or code, before seeking help.
Look up an error code or contact Nintendo
If an error code appears, search for that exact code in Nintendo Support’s troubleshooting resources rather than assuming it is a membership or connection issue. If the recommended checks do not restore access, contact Nintendo Support and provide the code, the account and membership status, and whether the library or only a particular game fails.
