If Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will not launch, crashes, stutters, flickers, or fails to play cutscenes on Windows, start with Capcom’s checks: compare your PC with the current Steam requirements, then verify files, review security-software blocks, and update Windows and graphics drivers. These are troubleshooting steps, not a diagnosis or a guarantee that any one will solve every problem.
Check your PC against the current requirements first
Open the Steam Store page and compare its current minimum and recommended requirements with your CPU, graphics card and VRAM, system memory, and Windows version. If your PC is below minimum, Capcom warns the game may run poorly or fail to start. If it meets minimum but not recommended specifications, try lower graphics settings before considering hardware changes.

Meeting the listed requirements does not guarantee normal operation on every configuration. Capcom cautions that onboard graphics sharing system memory and mobile GPUs may not operate normally even when they meet the displayed requirements. High-end integrated graphics and modern laptop GPUs may work, but Capcom says some are not tested or officially supported. Check your exact hardware before deciding an upgrade is needed.
If the game will not launch or its frame rate drops, check security software
Capcom Customer Support says some launch issues and frame-rate drops may happen when security software falsely flags the game executable and prevents it from launching. Check your antivirus and firewall exclusions for the game executable and folder, Steam.exe, and Steam AppData. If you already added them, Capcom suggests removing and adding them again. Follow your security vendor’s instructions, and confirm the actual location of your Steam library before changing exclusions.

The default game folder listed in Capcom’s guide is C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonMONSTER_HUNTER_STORIES_3_TWISTED_REFLECTION. A library installed on another drive will have a different path. Capcom’s troubleshooting guidance is in its official Steam support thread.
Update Windows and drivers, and check which GPU the game uses
- Try administrator permissions: close Steam, then try launching Steam.exe as administrator. If needed, try the game executable the same way.
- Install Windows updates: check Windows Update and apply available updates.
- Update the graphics driver: install the current driver for your graphics hardware, then restart the PC. If a regular update does not help, Capcom lists a clean driver installation as a further step.
- Choose the intended GPU: on a dual-GPU PC, check the graphics-driver settings and make sure the game is assigned to the high-performance GPU. Reset driver settings if appropriate.
Do not change drivers solely on the assumption that your symptoms match a known issue; check the notices below and your exact driver and game versions first.

Repair game files and close conflicting applications
Verify the installation in Steam
In Steam, open the game’s Properties, select Installed Files, then choose Verify integrity of game files. Capcom says verification can repair missing or corrupted files. Wait for it to finish before launching the game again.

Quit applications that use substantial system resources, including capture software and performance overlays, then test the game. This helps determine whether another running application is contributing to instability or low frame rates.

Clear the named shader files if trouble remains
If graphics or stability problems persist, Capcom’s guide says to delete shader.cache, shader.cache2, and pipelinelist.bin from the game installation folder if those files are present. Use the folder for your actual Steam library.
Choose a fix for the specific symptom
Unstable frame rate, low FPS, or stuttering
- Set Graphics Settings to Low or Medium and test again.
- Check that the PC has adequate ventilation and is not overheating.
- Try limiting the frame rate.
Flickering or a blank screen
In the game, open Options > Monitor and adjust V-Sync. Also check the monitor’s own settings.

Cutscenes do not play
On Windows N or KN, try installing Microsoft’s Media Feature Pack. Capcom notes that some cutscenes use Windows Media Player codecs.

- If Compatibility Mode is enabled, turn it off for both the game executable and Steam.exe.
- For DirectX-related problems, Capcom recommends running Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer.
Check Capcom’s NVIDIA driver notices before changing drivers
Capcom’s March 26, 2026 notice reported crash-related issues with NVIDIA drivers including 595.79 and 595.97 and said it was investigating with NVIDIA. On April 2, 2026, Capcom said version 1.0.04 fixed a bug related to GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards and certain drivers. The notices do not identify every affected configuration or establish that a particular crash has this cause. Check Capcom’s current notices and your current game and driver versions before considering a driver rollback or another driver change.
If the problem continues, give support details they can use
Capcom asks players reporting persistent issues to include:
- CPU, GPU and VRAM, system memory, and graphics-driver version
- Windows version and security software
- Monitor details and graphics settings from
config.ini - The exact symptom, where and when it happens, whether it can be reproduced, and the steps that reproduce it
- Screenshots or video, if available
For a crash, look for the CrashReport folder in the game directory. A timestamped ZIP is usually created; keep the report closest in time to the crash for support. Capcom’s troubleshooting post is available in its Steam support thread.
