If Monster Hunter Rise is crashing, running slowly, or failing to connect on PC, start by identifying where the problem occurs and which storefront you use. Check the game’s requirements and reversible configuration issues before changing hardware or router settings. Capcom’s Steam troubleshooting guides were updated July 16 and July 17, 2026; its Microsoft Store connection advice is separate.
First, identify the failure point and storefront
The right troubleshooting path depends on whether the game fails to launch, slows down during play, or cannot connect in multiplayer. Also note whether your copy is on Steam or the Microsoft Store: Capcom provides different network guidance for each edition.

- Crash or launch failure: begin with system requirements, security software, drivers, and game files.
- Low FPS: compare your PC with the listed requirements, then check graphics settings, GPU selection, and power.
- Multiplayer connection failure: use the steps for your storefront, starting with service status and local network checks.
If more than one symptom occurs, record when each one happens—for example, at launch, in a particular scene, or when entering an online lobby. That helps distinguish a performance problem from a connection problem instead of prompting unrelated changes.

Check whether your PC meets the Steam requirements
Steam’s listing describes these specifications and performance targets. They are the storefront’s stated targets, not independent benchmark results or a guarantee of the same frame rate on every PC.

Capcom warns that falling below minimum requirements may cause poor frame rates or prevent the game from running. If your PC meets the minimum but not the recommended specifications, Capcom advises lowering graphics settings. Some integrated graphics may work, but Capcom says they are untested and unsupported.
Fix crashes and launch failures
Work through these checks in order, testing the game after a change. None is a universal fix: a crash can have different causes, and Capcom’s guide does not diagnose an individual PC remotely.

- This Nintendo Switch system takes you to new heights with art inspired by the flagship monster, magnamalo, from the action-RPG title monster Hunter Rise.
- The eye catching metallic artwork features game inspired iconography on the Nintendo Switch Console, Joy-Con controllers, and the Nintendo Switch dock.
- As a bonus, this Nintendo Switch bundle includes a digital code for monster Hunter Rise + Deluxe kit DLC that includes the game and additional in-game content.
- Check the installation and security software. Confirm the game is installed where you expect. Capcom says antivirus software can sometimes falsely flag the game executable and recommends checking antivirus and firewall exceptions for the game and Steam. Its default Steam paths are
C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonMonsterHunterRise,C:Program Files (x86)Steam, and Steam AppData under the current user’s local application data. Only add exclusions for the correct installation and files you trust; do not disable protection wholesale. - Try running as administrator if appropriate. Capcom reports that some players have resolved launch issues by running Steam or the game executable as administrator. Treat this as a test rather than a permanent requirement.
- Update Windows and graphics drivers. Install available Windows updates and current drivers for your graphics hardware. Capcom also discusses clean driver installation if ordinary updates do not help. Its guide mentions Display Driver Uninstaller as an enthusiast option, not a required first step; avoid advanced driver removal unless you understand the process.
- Check which GPU the game uses. On a laptop with integrated and dedicated graphics, assign Monster Hunter Rise to the high-performance GPU using the current Windows or graphics-vendor interface. Control-panel labels can change.
- Check DirectX and media components. Make sure DirectX is up to date. If the game fails around a cutscene or on a Windows edition without media components, check whether the Windows Media Feature Pack or relevant codecs are installed.
- Verify the Steam installation. In Steam, open Library, right-click Monster Hunter Rise, choose Properties > Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files. Steam checks the installation and can reacquire missing or damaged files.
If the laptop’s performance or launch behavior changes on battery, connect its charger and check that its power profile is not limiting performance. For a persistent problem, preserve the exact error text and note whether it occurs at startup, during a specific scene, or after a settings change.

What to send Capcom if the checks do not resolve it
Capcom asks users with unresolved PC problems to provide the game’s config.ini, a DxDiag.txt report, and their region or location. Include the symptom and the point at which it occurs so support can interpret the files in context.

Improve low FPS without buying hardware first
Use the Steam requirements table above to see whether the PC is below minimum, between minimum and recommended, or at or above the recommended specification. If it meets minimum but not recommended requirements, lower graphics settings as Capcom advises. The Steam FPS figures in the table are listed targets, not a promise of measured performance on your particular setup.
- On a dual-GPU laptop, confirm that the game is assigned to the dedicated high-performance GPU.
- Connect the charger and check the laptop’s power profile if performance is limited on battery or in a power-saving mode.
- Install current Windows and graphics-driver updates.
If the game is still slow after those checks, note the settings and the point in play where the slowdown occurs. The official guidance supports checking requirements and configuration first; it does not establish that every low-FPS case needs a graphics-card upgrade.

Fix Steam multiplayer connection problems
For the Steam edition, change one thing at a time and test again. Capcom’s troubleshooting guidance describes 15–20 Mbps as often sufficient for online gaming; it is not a stated Monster Hunter Rise-specific minimum bandwidth requirement. Other people or devices using the same connection for streaming or work can reduce what is available to play.

- Check profile privacy if invites fail. Capcom says protected Steam profiles may prevent sending invites. Try setting profile privacy to Public or Friends Only.
- Reduce competing network use for a test. Pause downloads and other heavy activity, or test when fewer devices are using the connection.
- Restart the connection path. Exit the game, restart the PC, and restart the modem or router. Retest before changing more settings.
- Check NAT and UPnP. Capcom notes that strict NAT can make it difficult to connect to some online game servers, including on some university or college networks. If you are unsure about router settings, ask the router manufacturer or internet provider rather than guessing at port changes.
- Isolate Wi-Fi or router issues. If you use Wi-Fi, test with wired Ethernet between the PC and router. If you are already wired, Capcom suggests testing a direct connection to the modem, where practical, to help isolate the router.
- Check firewall permissions. Make sure Windows Firewall and other security software allow
MonsterHunterRise.exe.
Microsoft Store edition: use its separate network guidance
Do not apply the Microsoft Store port list as a universal Steam requirement. Capcom’s separate Microsoft Store FAQ lists these ports as part of that edition’s connection troubleshooting:
Best Value
| Port | Protocol |
|---|---|
| 88 | UDP |
| 3074 | UDP and TCP |
| 53 | UDP and TCP |
| 80 | TCP |
| 500 | UDP |
| 3544 | UDP |
| 4500 | UDP |
The FAQ also recommends restarting network equipment, enabling UPnP, testing a minimal network path, checking Wi-Fi band or channel, distance and interference, trying wired Ethernet, and checking packet filtering and ISP status. Changing router or firewall settings can affect network security. If you are uncertain about a setting or how to restore it, contact your internet provider or equipment manufacturer before changing it.
When symptoms overlap, troubleshoot the layer that matches
A crash at startup points first to system requirements, drivers, security software, or game files. Low FPS points first to the hardware margin, graphics settings, GPU routing, and laptop power. A failure only when joining a lobby points first to Steam service or profile settings, then the local network, NAT, or firewall. Keep the storefront in view: Capcom’s port checklist above is specifically for its Microsoft Store FAQ.
