Missing fonts in a Browserless screenshot usually point to one of three problems: capture starts before web fonts finish loading, the remote font request fails or returns an unexpected format, or a self-hosted browser image does not contain a required system font. Identify which case applies before changing settings: each calls for a different fix.
First identify which font is missing
Reproduce the capture with the same browser route, viewport, and page state, then determine where the intended font comes from. A web font is downloaded by the page, commonly through a stylesheet and an @font-face declaration. A system font is expected to be available on the operating system inside the browser runtime. Those sources fail in different ways.

- The font request succeeds, but the screenshot shows a fallback: the page may have been captured before the browser finished loading fonts.
- The stylesheet or font-file request fails, or its response differs from a working browser: investigate network access, server behavior, and request headers.
- The page expects a font installed on the operating system: if you run Browserless yourself, check whether that font is present in your image.
Set the viewport before capture when responsive layout affects which content or font rules the page uses. Browserless discusses viewport and screenshot settings in its BAP screenshot documentation.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If a web font loads too late, wait for font readiness
When the font file loads successfully but the screenshot catches fallback text, wait for the page to reach the state you need and then wait for the browser’s font-loading promise before invoking the screenshot operation. In browser-side JavaScript, that readiness signal is document.fonts.ready. This is waiting logic you add to your capture flow; it is not a documented BAP screenshot option named waitForFonts.

- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
For example, in a Puppeteer-style flow, set the viewport, navigate, wait for the relevant page state, await font readiness, and then take the screenshot:
await page.setViewport({ width: 1440, height: 900 });
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'networkidle0' });
await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
Adapt navigation and screenshot calls to the Browserless SDK or route you actually use. A fixed sleep is less reliable: it can waste time on fast pages and still be too short on slow ones. Use a targeted delay only if testing shows the page has a specific additional delay beyond font readiness.

Do not confuse PDF and screenshot options
Browserless documents a waitForFonts option for PDF generation, where it waits for document.fonts.ready. Its BAP screenshot option list includes waitForImages, but does not list waitForFonts. Check the documentation for the exact SDK or API version and capture method you use before reusing an option between PDF and screenshot requests. See the Browserless PDF documentation for the PDF-specific option.

Waiting cannot repair a request that never delivers a usable font. Inspect the browser’s network activity and console for both the stylesheet that declares the font and the font-file request itself. Confirm that the requests succeed in the Browserless runtime, that the response is usable by that browser, and that the page is not blocked by access controls or other network restrictions.

Compare the request made by Browserless with one made by a browser where the font renders correctly. User-agent-dependent responses are one possible difference. Browserless founder Joel Griffith’s 2019 troubleshooting article describes a specific example in which a font service returned WOFF2 to local Chrome but a TTF request in headless mode, and suggests trying a legitimate user agent. Treat that as a diagnostic to test against your actual font provider, not a general guarantee that changing the user agent will fix missing fonts. The article is at Browserless’s web-font troubleshooting post.
If the stylesheet or font request fails, address that failure first; installing a system font in a container does not fix a blocked or incorrect remote web-font request.

If a self-hosted Browserless image lacks a system font
Browserless says its self-hosted images include common fonts for Latin, CJK, Arabic, Thai, and Indic scripts. That does not establish that every font a particular site needs is present. For a missing system font in your own deployment, Browserless documents extending the image with a custom Dockerfile. Add the required font files or distribution packages to the image build, observe the font’s license, refresh the font cache if the base image requires it, rebuild, and verify the font inside the resulting browser runtime. Package names and cache commands depend on the base image and font, so there is no single safe universal install command.
This remedy is for self-hosted deployments. If you use Browserless as a hosted service, you cannot modify its provider-managed container; first establish whether the page uses a remote web font and whether its request succeeds.

Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot without wiring up a browser capture flow, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API and an MCP server. Cookie banners are accepted and removed before capture, along with known newsletter popups and chat widgets; those cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with the page verdict and billing status reported in response headers. AI agents can use its MCP tools to take screenshots, inspect page information, and capture PDFs. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
For example, request a WebP screenshot with cURL (replace the target URL as needed):

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Browserless support waitForFonts for screenshots?
The cited Browserless documentation describes waitForFonts for PDF generation, not as a BAP screenshot option. For screenshots, use browser-side readiness logic and check the documentation for your specific API or SDK version.
Will installing a font in Docker fix every missing-font screenshot?
No. It can address an absent system font in a self-hosted image, but it does not fix a failed or unusable remote web-font request.
