Steam’s listed Windows requirements for these games are legacy specifications, not a guarantee that a system will be compatible or perform well today. Steam also states that its client has supported Windows 10 and later since January 1, 2024. If Metro Redux crashes or will not launch
Restart and verify the game files
- Restart Windows and Steam.
- In Steam, open Library, right-click the affected game, and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files and select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for verification to finish; it can take several minutes. If Steam reports that some configuration files failed validation, Steam says those files can normally be ignored.

Try Steam’s general launch checks
If verification does not resolve a launch failure, Steam’s general troubleshooting guidance recommends checking for Windows and driver updates, temporarily disabling nonessential background software, comparing the PC with the game’s requirements, and verifying the files. These are platform-wide checks rather than a Metro-specific diagnosis. If the game launches but stutters, freezes, or has low FPS
Test one setting at a time
Individual players have reported improvement after turning off PhysX or tessellation. Other reports mention forcing VSync or lowering resolution; a separate player said a 60 FPS cap did not eliminate persistent stutter. These reports are mixed and do not prove that any setting causes or fixes the problem on another PC.

- Record the current value of the setting you plan to change.
- Change only one setting—such as PhysX, tessellation, VSync, resolution, or the FPS limit.
- Replay the same scene or load the same save and compare the result.
- If the change does not help, restore the original value before testing another setting.
Testing a consistent scene helps distinguish a useful change from a difference caused by changing several options at once. - Still will not launch or keeps crashing: Complete the file check and general software checks above. If the fault remains, seek support for the specific PC and game configuration.
- Runs but stutters or freezes: Continue with single-setting tests and compare the same gameplay section each time. A frame-rate cap is not guaranteed to remove stutter.
- Low average FPS: Test resolution and other graphics options individually, then compare performance in the same scene. The available reports do not identify a universal setting or a hardware bottleneck.
Why a hardware upgrade is not the first fix
The cited Steam guidance starts with software and installation checks, while the game-specific suggestions are reversible settings experiments. None of the available sources establishes that buying a graphics card, processor, memory, storage, or cooling upgrade will fix these symptoms.
