Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf a game starts running slowly or stuttering after an update, first check whether it is still compiling shaders, then verify the game files and test settings and background apps one change at a time. The timing is a useful clue, not proof that the game patch caused the problem: a driver change, changed settings, damaged files, background load, or system limitations can produce similar symptoms.
Start by identifying what changed
Before changing settings, note the game version, when the slowdown began, and whether a game patch or graphics-driver update happened just beforehand. Also note whether the problem affects every scene or only particular areas. Check the game’s official status or support page for a known issue tied to the current version.

This information helps distinguish a game-specific problem from a system-wide one. General troubleshooting cannot identify a particular patch regression or hardware bottleneck without knowing the game and PC configuration.
Let shader compilation finish
After a game or graphics-driver update, some games process or rebuild shaders. If the game shows a shader preloading or compilation message, let it finish before entering a demanding scene or judging performance. Avoid interrupting the process where possible.

Intel says that on Intel Arc A-Series and B-Series graphics, brief pauses or stuttering can occur while shaders are processed after a graphics-driver update. Its guidance is to wait for processing to complete; performance should then stabilize. Intel’s Arc support article describes this behavior.
Shader controls and processing time vary by game. For example, Square Enix says the shader compilation process described in one of its game-specific support articles may take 35 to 90 minutes, depending on PC specifications. That range applies to that game’s instructions, not to games generally. See Square Enix’s shader-stuttering guidance.

Verify the game files
A patch can leave game data missing or damaged. Use the repair or file-verification feature in the launcher where the game is installed. On Steam, open the game’s Properties, go to Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Steam says verification may take several minutes; let it finish, and avoid running other intensive disk tasks at the same time.

Check requirements and graphics settings
Compare your CPU, GPU, memory, and other relevant components with the current requirements for the exact game. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee high FPS, and a patch may change performance demands or reset settings. If your PC is below the recommended requirements, reduce demanding graphics options and retest.
Change one option at a time so you can tell what helped. Start with the settings that put the greatest load on your system, such as resolution or demanding visual effects, and use the game’s own presets as a practical baseline. Capcom recommends lower graphics settings when a PC meets a game’s minimum but not its recommended requirements. Steam also notes that meeting system requirements alone does not guarantee high FPS. Check Capcom’s Steam-game troubleshooting guidance and Steam’s performance troubleshooting page.

Retest without unnecessary background load
Close resource-heavy applications for a short, controlled test. This can include recording or streaming software, unnecessary browser tabs, and performance overlays. These apps can compete with a game for system resources or interfere with performance measurements.

Retest in the same scene with the same graphics settings, changing only whether the background apps are running. Capcom specifically calls out recording applications and performance overlays; Steam also recommends stopping unnecessary applications and startup programs. If performance improves, re-enable apps one at a time to identify whether one is contributing.

Check drivers before changing them
Look at the GPU manufacturer’s official driver page and the game’s support notes. If the stutter began immediately after a graphics-driver update, record that timing and consult the vendor’s or game’s official guidance before changing drivers again. Driver advice depends on the GPU, game, and the specific update; installing a different driver is not a universal fix.
Likewise, do not assume a game patch is responsible simply because the symptoms appeared afterward. A game-specific update, driver regression, changed settings, or hardware limit may need different remedies.
When to contact game support
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, contact the game’s official support team with enough detail to reproduce and assess it:
- Game name and version, launcher, and operating system.
- CPU, GPU, installed RAM, and graphics-driver version.
- When the problem began and whether a game or driver update immediately preceded it.
- Affected scenes, graphics settings, and whether the issue occurs consistently.
- Steps already tried, including shader completion, file verification, settings changes, and background-app tests.
Keep troubleshooting reversible and targeted. A hardware upgrade is only justified if the PC falls short of the specific game’s requirements or testing identifies a component bottleneck; low FPS by itself is not enough evidence.
