If your phone will not connect to Just Dance, first check that you have the controller app for your game edition and that you are using the right mode. Then reopen the app and game, allow camera access if you use Camera Controller Mode, install available updates, and retry the pairing screen. A same-Wi-Fi check is also reasonable for older app-based pairing, but it is not confirmed as a universal fix for current editions.
First check which phone-control mode and game edition you’re using
Just Dance has two distinct ways to use a phone: hold it as a motion controller, or use Camera Controller Mode, which tracks your full-body movement through the phone’s camera. Troubleshooting differs because camera mode depends on camera permission and is not the same as holding the phone while dancing.
Ubisoft’s October 2025 announcement says Camera Controller Mode is solo-only and compatible with all choreographies from Just Dance 2025 and Just Dance 2026, with more compatible songs available through Just Dance+. Ubisoft’s Version 26.0.0 notes say the mobile companion app was renamed Just Dance Controller and that Camera Controller Mode left beta for regular use in Just Dance 2026 Edition. Ubisoft’s Camera Controller announcement and Version 26.0.0 patch notes describe those details.
Do not assume one app works with every Just Dance release. Apple’s listing for the legacy Just Dance 2016–22 Controller app specifies that it requires a console version of Just Dance 2016 through 2022. Match the app to your game rather than relying on the name alone: Apple App Store listing for Just Dance 2016–22 Controller.

Try these connection checks in order
- Return to the game’s pairing screen. Close and reopen the controller app, then go back to the controller pairing screen in the game and retry the method shown there. This is a general reset of the attempt, not a universal official pairing sequence; current instructions may differ by edition and platform.
- Allow camera access if you use Camera Controller Mode. Check your phone’s app permissions and enable camera access for Just Dance Controller, then retry calibration. Ubisoft’s 2025 patch notes document a case where the app could get stuck on camera calibration after camera permission had been denied. That fix identifies one past failure mode, not the cause of every current connection issue. Ubisoft Version 26.0.0 patch notes.
- Install available game and app updates. Update both components if updates are offered, restart the app, and try connecting again. Ubisoft’s same patch notes also record a fix for a pause-menu screen appearing after reconnecting during camera-controller scoring. This establishes a specific past reconnect bug; it does not show that all failed pairings share that cause.
- Check whether your edition requires internet. Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2024 FAQ says PS5 and Xbox Series X|S require an internet connection to set up the game and use the dedicated controller app. Its Switch guidance discusses online group play and full-catalogue access, while downloaded songs can be played offline subject to limits. - Make sure phone and console are on the same Wi-Fi network. An older Just Dance 2020-era connectivity guide says the app communicates with the console over Wi-Fi and advises putting both on the same network. What to do if a code or QR pairing still fails
If the game shows a code or QR option, retry the method displayed by that edition after reopening the app and game. The available official guidance does not establish current meanings for code errors, QR failures, or a single repair sequence that applies across consoles and phone operating systems. Avoid changing router settings or buying hardware on the assumption that a code or QR error has one known cause.
If the app and game are updated, camera permission is enabled where relevant, and the same-Wi-Fi check has passed but pairing still fails, collect the details that identify your setup before contacting Ubisoft support for that edition:
