Check that the new SIM or eSIM and line are set up correctly, then have the new carrier verify your account, device eligibility, coverage and local network status.
Start with a quick network reconnection

Turn on Airplane Mode, wait at least 15 seconds, then turn it off. This prompts the iPhone to reconnect if a network is available.

Restart the iPhone and check whether it connects. Apple defines No Service or Searching as a state in which the phone is not connected to a mobile network.

Check that the new SIM line is present and active
Open Settings > Cellular. Depending on your region, this menu may be called Mobile or Mobile Data. Select the new line and make sure it is turned on. On a Dual SIM iPhone, check that the intended line is active and that the correct line is selected for cellular data.

If the new line does not appear in Settings, contact the carrier to set up the eSIM or provide a physical SIM. Apple’s No Service guidance and Dual SIM guidance cover these line checks.
Finish setting up the new SIM or eSIM
If you use an eSIM
Keep the iPhone connected to Wi-Fi or a hotspot if setup requires internet access. The carrier may activate the eSIM directly, provide a QR code, offer setup through its app, or assist with a transfer. The available method depends on the iPhone model, carrier and region; ask the new carrier which method applies to your account. Apple’s eSIM setup guide and eSIM troubleshooting guidance describe the available setup paths.
If you use a physical SIM
Remove the SIM and reinsert it, making sure it sits correctly in the tray. If the card is damaged, does not fit, or was moved from another phone, ask the carrier whether it needs testing or replacement. A SIM eject tool—or a paper clip—can open the tray, but cannot resolve an activation or carrier-network problem. See Apple’s No Service guidance and SIM setup instructions.

Update iOS and the carrier settings
Connect to Wi-Fi, then open Settings > General > About and wait for any carrier-settings update prompt. Install the update if one appears. Apple notes that a new SIM can require downloading settings for the new network. Check for an iOS update as well, then restart and test the connection again.
Check whether the iPhone is carrier-locked
Go to Settings > General > About and look for Carrier Lock. Apple says an unlocked iPhone displays No SIM restrictions. If it is locked, it can be used only with the carrier that locked it; contact that carrier to ask about unlock eligibility and authorization. The new carrier cannot remove another carrier’s lock. Ask the new carrier to check activation and network status
If the SIM or eSIM is installed and the line is on but service still fails, contact the new carrier. Ask it to verify:

Your location has coverage and is not affected by a local outage.
These are distinct from a phone-side setting or carrier lock. Apple notes that only the wireless provider can access and manage account details; its No Service guidance recommends involving the carrier for account and network checks.
When to contact Apple for service
If the carrier confirms there is no account, provisioning, coverage or network issue and suspects a hardware fault, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Apple says the iPhone may need service when the provider has ruled out its side of the connection.
