Start with Settings > Battery to see whether an app, weak cellular signal, recent iOS update, or battery-health warning explains the shorter runtime. Make one targeted change at a time; faster drain alone does not prove your iPhone 18 Pro has a defective battery.
Check what is using battery before changing settings
- Open Settings > Battery. Look above the usage chart for suggestions or Insights that identify a possible cause.
- Compare recent usage. Review Daily Usage, then tap View All Battery Usage to inspect specific days and the app or system activity behind them. Apple says the chart compares today with the preceding seven days. Apple’s battery-drain guidance and its iPhone User Guide explain these views.
- Match the response to the label. Use the activity clues below rather than changing several settings at once.
Act on the activity Battery identifies
Background Activity
Check which app is named and whether its activity is expected. Background Activity can reflect music playback or location tracking. If the activity is unnecessary, reduce that app’s use or adjust the relevant background or location settings; avoid disabling features you rely on without checking what the app is doing.

No Mobile Coverage or Low Signal
These labels indicate that the phone is searching for service or working in weak reception. When practical, move to a place with stronger coverage. Wi-Fi may use less power than cellular when available; if you expect to be without coverage for a while, Airplane Mode is another option.

Repeated notifications can wake the device. If Battery points to a particular app, adjust that app’s notifications in Settings. If the screen suggests high brightness or an auto-lock issue, lower brightness or enable auto-brightness and auto-lock. Make changes based on the evidence shown on your phone rather than applying every possible battery-saving setting.

Allow time after an iOS update
If the shorter runtime started after an update, look in Settings > Battery for an Ongoing iOS Update insight. Update-related tasks may continue in the background and temporarily affect battery life and thermal performance. Apple advises waiting a few days after noticing reduced runtime following an update, then checking again; this is a possible explanation, not a guaranteed cause or a precise timetable. Apple’s guidance includes that recommendation.
Use power modes when you need them
Adaptive Power
Apple lists iPhone 18 Pro as compatible with Adaptive Power on iOS 26 or later. When enabled, it can make performance adjustments, lower brightness, or limit background activity, and it can automatically turn on Low Power Mode at 20 percent. It is a trade-off for extending runtime, not a diagnosis of the underlying drain. Check your settings to see whether it is available and enabled on your software version.

Low Power Mode
On iPhone 15 and later, including iPhone 18 Pro, the path is Settings > Battery > Power Mode. Low Power Mode reduces or turns off selected functions, which can include Mail fetch, Hey Siri, Background App Refresh, and some visual effects; some tasks may run more slowly. Apple’s guidance says Low Power Mode turns off after the device is charged above 80 percent. See Apple’s Low Power Mode guide for details.

Check Battery Health and decide whether to seek service
Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. On iPhone 15 and later, this screen can show battery health, cycle count, manufacture date, and first-use date. If the status is Service, Apple advises considering battery replacement and following the on-screen instructions. Apple says battery service or recycling should be handled by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider; see the iPhone User Guide.

These indicators help distinguish temporary or usage-related drain from a service warning. They do not establish that every iPhone 18 Pro has a battery defect; use your own Battery screen and health status to decide what applies.
