Intune error 0x80180013 means Windows MDM enrollment has hit a device-cap restriction for the enrolling user. Review the user’s applicable enrollment limit and remove or unenroll obsolete device records if your organization’s procedures allow it. If the visible device count looks low, ask an Intune administrator to check for older records in both Intune and Microsoft Entra.
What Intune error 0x80180013 means
Microsoft maps 0x80180013 to idErrorDeviceLimit, also identified as MENROLL_E_DEVICECAPREACHED. The registration error means the user has already enrolled too many devices; Microsoft’s recommended remedy is to delete or unenroll old ones. Microsoft’s MDM enrollment troubleshooting guide and its MDM registration error values reference identify this device-limit condition.

You may see a message such as “Your account has reached the maximum device limit for connecting to your work or school.” The applicable limit depends on your organization’s tenant settings; do not assume there is one universal number. A Microsoft Q&A user described a limit of five in one case, but that is not evidence of a general Microsoft-wide cap. The Q&A case is an example, not a statement of policy.
How to fix the device-limit error
1. Check the user’s applicable limit and device records
Ask your organization’s Intune administrator to review the enrollment limit that applies to your account and platform, then compare it with the device records associated with your user. The limit and records are tenant-specific, so a count that appears acceptable to you may not reflect the records or restriction used for enrollment.

2. Remove or unenroll obsolete devices carefully
If the administrator finds devices you no longer use, have them removed or unenrolled according to your organization’s ownership, security, and retention procedures. Do not delete a device record merely because it looks unfamiliar: confirm that it is obsolete and that removing it is appropriate for your organization.
3. Check for older records in Intune and Microsoft Entra
If enrollment still fails after visible cleanup, ask the administrator to look for older records that remain associated with your account in Intune and Microsoft Entra. In one Microsoft Q&A discussion, removing older Intune records tied to the user resolved the reported case; a Microsoft staff response also advised checking for remaining Microsoft Entra device records. This illustrates a possible cause, not a guaranteed explanation for every failure.

What to send your IT administrator
If you cannot inspect enrollment settings or device records yourself, send IT the exact error code and the message shown on screen. Ask them to check your applicable enrollment limit, review your Intune and Microsoft Entra device records, and confirm the general enrollment prerequisites if the device-limit checks do not resolve the issue. Portal labels and tenant settings can change, so the administrator should verify the current configuration before changing a limit or deleting a record.
