There is no single fix for Hindi text that looks wrong in an MCP website screenshot: the cause may be a missing Devanagari glyph, an unexpected font fallback, a shaping problem, or a screenshot captured before the page finished rendering. First compare the screenshot with the same page open in the target browser, then check the actual font and whether Hindi text is composed correctly.
Identify what “incorrectly” looks like
The visible symptom helps narrow the cause. Note whether you see missing-glyph boxes or blank characters, an unexpected typeface, malformed conjuncts or vowel marks, awkward line breaks or clipping, or a screenshot that differs from the browser page. These are different failure modes; changing fonts may help some but will not necessarily fix all of them.

Keep a sample of the affected Hindi text so you can compare the same characters in the browser and screenshot. For example, if a particular conjunct is malformed, test that exact string rather than judging the page only by its overall appearance.

Compare the page with the MCP screenshot
- Open the same URL in the browser used by your MCP workflow, outside the capture step, and inspect the affected text.
- Compare that view with the MCP screenshot. If both are wrong, start with the page’s CSS, font loading, installed fonts, and browser or operating-system rendering. If only the screenshot is wrong, investigate the automation and capture path, including whether the intended font had loaded before capture.
- If available, inspect both the page’s structured accessibility snapshot and its visual screenshot. Playwright MCP describes snapshots as structured page content and screenshots as useful when visual context matters; they provide different kinds of evidence, not a universal font-readiness test (Playwright MCP snapshots).
Do not assume that every MCP server uses the same browser, version, operating system, or capture timing. The exact command to wait for fonts depends on the MCP and browser workflow in use.

Verify which font actually rendered the Hindi
A CSS font-family list expresses preferences, not a guarantee that the first family renders every character. When a font lacks a needed character, the browser can fall back to another family. That fallback may be available but visually unexpected, or may not support the character properly. Noto’s web-font guidance explains this fallback behavior and recommends checking the font stack (Noto: Use Noto fonts on the web).
- In Chrome, inspect the affected element in DevTools and check the rendered typeface. Chrome documents how to see which typeface its text-rendering layer used (Chrome DevTools: What font is that?).
- Check whether the intended font family name is spelled correctly and whether the font is installed or successfully delivered as a web font.
- Check the weight and style requested by the CSS as well as the family. A page may request a weight that is not delivered, causing a different face or fallback.
- Check that the relevant glyphs are covered by the font actually used for the affected characters; the first family in the stack might not supply them.

font-family: 'Noto Sans Devanagari', 'Noto Sans', sans-serif;The script-specific Noto Sans Devanagari family is first for the primary script, followed by Noto Sans for characters such as punctuation and digits. Ensure the font files and the needed weight styles actually reach the browser. This is a practical example, not a requirement to use Noto or a guarantee that every font or shaping issue will be resolved.
After changing the stack, reload the page and check the rendered typeface again in DevTools. Then compare the browser view with a fresh MCP capture.

If glyphs are present but Hindi is composed incorrectly
Devanagari relies on shaping rules to arrange glyph forms correctly. Noto’s documentation explains that shaping rules enable accurate, orthographically correct complex-text layout. If the font has the required glyphs but conjuncts or marks remain malformed, simply replacing the font may not address the problem.
- Confirm the page contains the intended Unicode text rather than altered or incorrectly encoded characters.
- Compare the same string in another current browser or rendering environment to help isolate whether the issue is specific to the page or its rendering path.
- If you maintain the browser or text-rendering integration, use the W3C Devanagari Script Resources as implementer-oriented background for investigating script layout.
Historical Hindi-rendering reports exist in Chromium’s issue tracker (one report and another report), but historical reports do not establish that a current browser has the same defect. Likewise, a user report about the “ट्विस्ट” sample in a Google Fonts preview is not confirmation of a general Noto font defect (Noto Devanagari issue #70).

Troubleshoot by symptom

What details help pinpoint the cause?
If these checks do not isolate the fault, collect the MCP server name, browser and version, operating system, page URL, exact Hindi sample, and whether the same text looks wrong in the live browser. Include the page’s font-family CSS and, if possible, the rendered typeface shown by DevTools. Without those details, there is not enough information to name one universal fix.
