If Google Play Store will not open or apps will not download, start with the low-risk checks: test your internet connection, check available storage and Android updates, close and reopen the Store, restart your device, and verify its date and time. If those do not help, clear the Play Store cache before trying steps that can affect account or saved payment information.
Start with the symptom: one app or every download?
If only one app will not install or update while the rest of Play Store works, the issue may be specific to that app; contact its developer if the checks below do not resolve it. If Play Store itself will not open, stays on “Loading…,” or several downloads fail, work through the steps in order. Menu names can vary by Android version and device manufacturer.

Check the connection, storage, and Android updates
Test Wi-Fi and mobile data
Open a web page or another online app to confirm the device can connect. If Play Store is stuck loading or a download remains at 0%, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data and try again. On home Wi-Fi, check that Wi-Fi is enabled and move closer to the router if the signal is weak. If other devices also have trouble, restart the router according to its manual.
Check free space
Open your device’s Settings and look for Storage. Google says less than 1 GB available can be a sign that the device is low enough on space to prevent downloads or installations; this is an indicator, not a universal minimum for every app. If space is tight, remove or move items you no longer need, then retry the download. Check for Android system updates
In Settings, find the System update or Software update area and check for an available Android update. The exact path depends on your device.
Close Play Store, restart, and verify date and time
- Close Play Store from the recent-apps view, then open it again.
- If it still will not respond or download, restart the phone or tablet and test again.
- Open Settings and find System > Date & time, or the equivalent on your device. Turn on automatic date and time and automatic time zone if they are off. Wait a few minutes, then retry. If both are already enabled, date and time are less likely to be the cause; return to connection and other checks.
Clear Play Store cache, then consider its data
Google Play Help calls clearing the Play Store cache its most common solution for download problems. It is a sensible first app-level reset because it does not carry the same settings consequences as clearing Store data. Google Play Help: reinstall and re-enable apps

- Open Settings and go to Apps (or Apps & notifications), then Google Play Store.
- Open Storage & cache and tap Clear cache.
- Reopen Play Store and retry the download before making another change.
If clearing the cache does not help, the same App info screen may offer Clear storage or Clear data. This can reset Play Store settings such as parental controls and password protection, and you may need to accept the Store terms again. Use it only if you are prepared to review and restore those settings.
For failures across multiple apps, try the advanced steps carefully
Remove and re-add your Google Account
Google lists account removal and re-addition among the steps for multiple-app download problems. Back up important information before removing the account, and make sure you know how to sign in again. Uninstall and reinstall Play Store updates
From Google Play Store’s App info menu, use the option to uninstall updates. If Play Store opens afterward, go to Play Store > profile icon > Settings > About > Update Play Store to reinstall available updates. The exact labels may differ by device.
Do not confuse Play Store with Google Play services
Play Store is the app used to find and download content. Google Play services is a separate Android component that connects apps with Google services such as Sign In and Maps. Clearing Play Store cache is not the same as clearing Google Play services data. Google advises trying other troubleshooting options before clearing Play services data because it can remove saved information such as passwords, transit cards, COVID cards, or virtual payment cards; payment methods may need reauthentication, and you may have to sign in again. If Play Store is missing or the problem continues
When the Store app is not on the device
Google says Play Store is pre-installed on Android devices that support Google Play. Confirm that your device is supported and check whether the app has been hidden or disabled. Google Play Help: find the Google Play Store app
When troubleshooting has not fixed it
For a failure limited to one app, contact that app’s developer. For persistent Store-wide trouble, contact Google Play support or your device manufacturer or carrier, depending on whether the issue appears to involve the Store or the device/network.
