Google also describes separate Gemini suggestions based on recent chats. Its official help pages do not document a dedicated games feature or a games-specific setting, so there may be no games toggle to enable.
First identify which kind of suggestion is missing
Google documents two different suggestion features in Messages. They do not share the same description or control, and neither is guaranteed to appear in every conversation.

| Feature | What it may show | What happens when tapped | Documented setting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suggested actions | Utility actions such as creating a calendar invite, attaching recent photos, starting a Meet video call, sharing your location, or searching for GIFs. | Starts the relevant action. | More options → Suggestions in chat → Suggested actions. |
| Gemini suggestions | Topic suggestions, such as movies or restaurants, based on recent chats. | Asks Gemini to search for the suggestion and returns a shareable result card. | Google’s help page describes how these suggestions work but does not identify a separate on/off control for them: Gemini suggestions in Messages. |
Turn on Suggested actions
- Open Google Messages.
- Tap More options.
- Tap Suggestions in chat.
- Check Suggested actions. If it is off, turn it on, then check a conversation for action suggestions.
Google says Suggested actions are on by default unless you turn them off. The setting enables the feature; Google does not promise that every action will appear in every chat.

Understand Gemini suggestions
Google says Gemini suggestions are based on recent chats and may surface information about topics such as movies and restaurants. They are separate from the utility actions controlled by the Suggested actions setting. The official explanation does not establish a way to force a particular topic suggestion to appear or guarantee one in a given conversation.

What to know about games
The reviewed Google help pages describe Suggested actions and Gemini suggestions, but do not document a dedicated games feature, its eligibility requirements, or a games-specific setting in Google Messages. That does not rule out every experiment, version, or regional variation; it means Google’s documented instructions provide no games toggle to troubleshoot.

If suggestions are still missing
Google’s documented guidance does not give a specific cache-clearing, reset, or reinstall procedure for missing suggestion cards. If your Messages menus look different, the available options may vary by app version or rollout, but Google’s cited guidance does not identify a more specific cause.
If you are also unable to send or receive texts, use Google’s separate troubleshooting steps for sending, receiving, or connecting in Google Messages. Those steps include updating the app, checking that Messages is your default texting app, and checking signal, connectivity, and carrier support. They address message transport; Google does not identify them as fixes for missing suggestion cards when messaging otherwise works.
