If Galaxy Enhance-X closes, freezes, or refuses to process an image, work through the checks in this order: confirm your phone is eligible, update Galaxy Enhance-X and the phone, restore photo permissions, restart and retry with another image, then clear the cache. Use Clear data or reinstall only after protecting anything stored locally. If the failure remains, give Samsung Support the exact model, software and app versions, error message, affected photo and enhancement tool.
There is no published crash rate, universal file-size limit, supported-format table or confirmed Enhance-X-specific defect that explains every failure. The cause on your phone has to be isolated from its model, software, permissions, app state, image and selected operation.

Start with the short recovery path
- Check availability for this exact phone. In Galaxy Store, open the Galaxy Enhance-X listing. Samsung’s current US support guidance says the app is supported on phones running Android 14 and One UI 6.0 or newer; the live listing is the best check for your model and region. Open Settings > About phone > Software information to see Android and One UI versions.
- Update both layers. In Galaxy Store, open Menu > Updates (the label can vary) and install any Galaxy Enhance-X update. Then open Settings > Software update > Download and install and apply an available phone update. Samsung places app and system updates among the first checks for crashing apps (Samsung’s app-crash guidance).
- Restore photo access. Go to Settings > Apps > Galaxy Enhance-X > Permissions and allow the permissions required to select and edit photos. Android can remove permissions from an app that has not been used for some time. Names and locations differ by Galaxy model and software version.
- Restart, then retry. Close unused apps, restart the phone and try Enhance-X again. Use a normal photo that works in Gallery, and note the enhancement tool you selected.
- Clear the cache. Open Settings > Apps > Galaxy Enhance-X > Storage, choose Clear cache if it is offered, reopen the app and test again.
- Reset only as a later step. Clear data removes data stored by the app and can sign you out. Reinstalling removes the current installation. Preserve anything important and use Galaxy Store rather than an unofficial APK.
- Escalate with evidence. If the app still fails, record the phone model, Android and One UI versions, Enhance-X version, exact error, affected enhancement and whether every photo or only certain files fail before contacting Samsung Support.

Use the current store listing for a per-device answer
Open Galaxy Store and search for “Galaxy Enhance-X.” If the listing says the app is unavailable for your exact phone, an installation or processing failure may be a compatibility limitation rather than a damaged photo. Availability can vary by model and country, so do not infer eligibility from a different Galaxy phone.

Samsung’s current US article on AI editing tools states that Galaxy Enhance-X is supported on phones running Android 14 with One UI 6.0 or above (Samsung support: Use AI editing tools in Gallery). This is the current baseline in that article, not a promise that every model with those versions receives the app. The store listing still decides whether your particular device can install or update it.
Check the software versions on the phone
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone.
- Tap Software information.
- Record Android version and One UI version.
If your phone is below the current requirement, check Settings > Software update > Download and install. An update may be unavailable for an older model or region; do not treat a failed update as proof that Enhance-X itself is broken.
Understand the older 2023 device list
Samsung’s June 20, 2023 launch announcement named these device families running One UI 5.1 or newer: Galaxy S23, S22, S21 and S20; Note20; Z Fold4, Z Flip4, Z Fold3, Z Flip3, Z Fold2, Z Flip 5G and Z Flip LTE (Samsung Global Newsroom announcement). That announcement is historical. It is not a complete current compatibility list and should not override the newer Android 14/One UI 6.0 guidance or the live Galaxy Store listing.
2. Update Galaxy Enhance-X and the phone
Update from Galaxy Store
- Open Galaxy Store.
- Use search to open the Galaxy Enhance-X page, or open the store’s updates area.
- Tap Update when it appears.
- Wait for installation to finish, then launch the app from the store or app drawer.
If no update button appears, the installed version may already be current, the listing may not support your phone, or an update may not yet be offered in your region. Samsung advises checking compatibility in the relevant store description because apps written for older Android versions may not work correctly on newer devices (Samsung support: Cannot update or install apps).

Install available phone updates
Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. Keep the phone connected to power and a reliable network while the update runs. Afterward, restart once and test Enhance-X before changing app data. A phone update can change permission behavior or app compatibility, so retest after the update rather than assuming the previous failure remains.
3. Restore photo and file permissions
Check the permission screen
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Select Galaxy Enhance-X.
- Tap Permissions.
- Allow the photo or file access permission shown for selecting and working with images.
Android may automatically remove permissions from an app that has not been opened for a while. Samsung lists permission checks as a general remedy when an app cannot access content or stops working (Samsung’s app-crash guidance). Your screen may use labels such as Photos and videos, Files and media or a similarly worded choice, depending on Android and One UI versions.
After changing a permission, force-close Enhance-X from its app-information screen or the recent-apps view, open it again, select the photo and retry. If the permission is already allowed and every photo still fails, continue rather than repeatedly toggling it.
4. Restart and isolate the failure
Perform a clean retry
- Save any other work, then close unused apps from the recent-apps screen.
- Restart the phone using the power menu.
- After the phone finishes booting, open Galaxy Enhance-X before launching several other demanding apps.
- Select a regular photo that opens normally in Samsung Gallery and run one enhancement.
Restarting clears temporary app and system state. Samsung includes rebooting and checking device performance among its general crash remedies; it does not establish that a particular background app is known to break Enhance-X (Samsung Canada performance guidance).

Compare one image with another
If the first image fails, choose a different ordinary photo and repeat the same operation. Record whether the result changes:
- Only one image fails: keep the original file, try a copy, and note the image’s source and the exact tool that fails. This is an isolation method, not proof of a particular format or size restriction.
- Several images fail in one tool: test another Enhance-X tool. A feature-specific pattern is useful information for support.
- Every image fails in every tool: return to eligibility, updates, permissions and app state; those checks are more informative than repeatedly selecting files.
The available Samsung material does not publish an Enhance-X-specific supported-format list, maximum image size or universal per-file workaround. Do not assume that a particular extension, resolution or camera source is officially unsupported without confirmation for your device and app version.
Check where the photo comes from
For diagnosis, compare a camera photo stored locally with an image saved from another app or downloaded from a message. The comparison does not prove that one source is incompatible; it simply shows whether the failure follows one file or occurs across different files. Keep the original untouched and use a duplicate when an operation may overwrite an edit.
5. Clear the cache before clearing data
Clear temporary files
- Open Settings > Apps > Galaxy Enhance-X.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Return to the app and retry the same image and operation.
Cache clearing removes temporary files, not the app installation. The exact buttons can differ by model and software version. If Clear cache is unavailable, skip it and continue with the other checks.

Use Clear data only when you accept the reset
If cache clearing changes nothing, the same screen may offer Clear data. Samsung warns that this erases data stored by that app and may log you out (Samsung’s app-crash guidance). Before selecting it:
- Save or export anything Enhance-X stores locally that you still need.
- Make sure you know any account credentials the app may request again.
- Understand that this is a reset of local app state, not a repair to the source photo.
After clearing data, open Enhance-X, grant its photo permissions again if prompted, and test with a copy of a normal image. If the failure began after the reset, record that result for support instead of repeatedly resetting.

Reinstalling is a later general troubleshooting option, not a guaranteed Enhance-X fix. First confirm that Galaxy Store still lists the app for your phone and that the phone meets the current software requirement. Then remove the app through the standard app-information or uninstall control, restart if prompted, and install Galaxy Enhance-X again from Galaxy Store.
Do not use unofficial APK files as a routine remedy. They can introduce a different build, prevent normal updates or create a separate security and compatibility problem. If Galaxy Store will not install the app, follow Samsung’s app-install troubleshooting and note the exact store message (Samsung support: Cannot update or install apps).
7. Prepare a useful Samsung Support report
If the crash or processing failure survives the sequence, support needs reproducible details rather than only “it does not work.” Write down:
- Exact Galaxy model, including any regional model identifier shown in Settings > About phone.
- Android version and One UI version.
- Galaxy Enhance-X version shown in its app information or Galaxy Store page.
- Whether Galaxy Store lists the app as available and whether an update was offered.
- The exact error text, or whether the app closes, freezes, returns to Gallery or stays on a processing screen.
- The enhancement tool selected when the problem occurs.
- Whether one photo, several photos or every photo fails.
- What changed after permission checks, restart, cache clearing, data clearing or reinstalling.
Include a screenshot of the error when practical, but avoid sharing private images unless Samsung requests them through an appropriate support channel. Samsung’s general guidance notes that downloaded apps may not be the cause when troubleshooting continues to fail; that statement is not a diagnosis of Enhance-X, so escalation should remain a fact-finding step rather than an assumption of a known outage (Samsung’s app-crash guidance).
Use the symptoms to choose your next step

What not to assume
- Do not use the June 2023 launch list as a current guarantee of support; later Samsung guidance and the live store listing are more relevant.
- Do not assume that a single failed image proves a universal file-format, resolution or size limit. No such Enhance-X rule is established in the cited Samsung material.
- Do not treat a restart as proof that a particular background app caused the crash. It is an isolation step.
- Do not clear data before considering what local app information may be erased.
- Do not buy a new phone or accessory as a troubleshooting step; the documented path is software, permissions, app state and support diagnostics.
The Bottom Line
Start with the live Galaxy Store compatibility check and current Android/One UI requirement, then update, restore permissions, restart and compare another photo. Clear cache before any destructive reset. If Enhance-X still crashes or refuses to process images, preserve the diagnostic details and contact Samsung Support rather than guessing at an unsupported file rule or known defect.
