What the message means—and what it does not prove
The game is reporting that it cannot continue with an Xbox profile available. The wording “Please check your network connection to continue” can point you toward connectivity, but the message alone does not establish that your internet connection is the cause. Microsoft sign-in and the game’s loading of an Xbox profile are separate stages: one Steam Deck player reported that Microsoft QR-code authentication succeeded before the profile error appeared. No official Forza statement identified here explains this exact Windows error or confirms a Windows-specific remedy. The steps below adapt Microsoft’s general Windows app guidance; they are reasonable checks, not guaranteed game fixes.
Try these Windows PC steps in order
1. Confirm the account and launcher
- Check that the Microsoft account you expect to use with the Xbox profile is signed in.
- Note whether you start the game through Steam or the Xbox app/Microsoft Store. This helps distinguish launcher and platform issues if you need support.
- Do not begin by switching accounts or unlinking accounts. The available evidence does not establish account relinking as a safe or effective fix.
2. Restart Windows and install available updates
- Save your work and restart the PC.
- Open Windows Update in Settings and install available updates.
- Open Microsoft Store, select Library, and check for available app updates.
- Launch Forza Horizon 6 again using the same launcher and account.

3. Repair the relevant Xbox or Store app
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Choose the Xbox app or Microsoft Store app, as applicable, and open Advanced options.

- Restart the PC and try the game again.
4. Use Reset only if Repair is unavailable or unsuccessful
If Windows offers Reset and Repair is missing or has not helped, Reset is a later option. It may clear local app data or require you to sign in again. 5. Test the network cautiously
Confirm that ordinary internet access works. If you use a VPN, proxy, or network filter, you can briefly test with it disabled only if doing so is safe for your network and region; restore your usual settings afterward. One Linux user said disabling a VPN helped them sign in, but that is a single anecdote and does not show that VPNs cause the Windows error or that this test will fix it. Linux user report

Tell authentication failure from profile-loading failure
Pay attention to when the message appears. If Microsoft sign-in itself does not complete, the problem is at the authentication step. If sign-in completes and the error follows, the game may be failing to load the Xbox profile. A Steam Deck report describes the latter sequence, but it does not establish why it happens or how to resolve it on Windows. Platform and launcher matter: a SteamOS/Proton report cannot be treated as a Windows diagnosis.

A May 2026 Steam Community thread also shows this wording being reported on Steam Deck. A commenter shared batch files from an unrelated sign-in discussion, while another said trying them did not work.
