That does not mean every customer is affected or that every bill will rise: T-Mobile said some customers would see no monthly change. If you receive a notice, compare your account’s proposed total and benefits—not just the new plan name—before deciding whether the change works for you.
Is T-Mobile raising my bill or moving me to a new plan?
June and July 2026 reporting described T-Mobile notifying some customers on legacy plans that those plans would be retired and their accounts moved to newer plans. The reported migration date was July 13, 2026. Coverage cited potential increases of up to $6 per voice or home-internet line, but did not provide a complete list of affected accounts or a universal price schedule. Your own notice and signed-in account details are the relevant sources for your proposed change. Tom’s Guide reported the migration and T-Mobile’s explanation.

T-Mobile said it was retiring its oldest plans, some built nearly 15 years earlier for the 3G and 4G eras, and transitioning customers to plans with access to its 5G network, enhanced features, and a five-year price guarantee. The company also said moved customers would keep their current benefits while gaining improvements in network and service experiences. Those are T-Mobile’s stated reasons and claims; the cited reporting does not independently verify that every customer will experience every claimed improvement.
In response to questions about the guarantee, a T-Mobile spokesperson told Fierce Network that “where we’ve committed to not raising prices, those prices are not being adjusted. A large percentage of people will see no price change.” The statement was made in the context of the guarantee on monthly talk, text, and 5G data. It is not a promise that every account’s total bill, including every fee or add-on, is frozen. Read Fierce Network’s account of the clarification.

What does the five-year price guarantee cover?
T-Mobile describes its five-year commitment as applying to eligible plan prices for talk, text, and 5G data. That scope is narrower than “nothing on my bill can change.” Check whether your particular plan is eligible, what the plan terms say, and how your bill is divided among service, recurring fees, equipment payments, taxes, and optional add-ons. A plan retirement and the guarantee’s terms are related questions, but one does not by itself settle the other.
There is also a separate advertising-review issue, not a court ruling on an individual customer’s bill. On January 8, 2026, BBB National Programs’ National Advertising Division (NAD) said the record supported T-Mobile’s claim that its customers had experienced at most one price increase on talk, text, and data plans during the preceding ten-year period. NAD recommended that T-Mobile discontinue its challenged comparison suggesting AT&T and Verizon customers together had received “10 price hikes in two years,” saying the record did not establish that claim. NAD also recommended discontinuing challenged universal-sounding satellite-coverage claims. T-Mobile said it would appeal. These were NAD recommendations, not a final court judgment or a final ruling after appeal. See NAD’s January 2026 announcement.

How to compare your current plan with the proposed one
Make the comparison using your account’s actual monthly totals and the features you use. Some account-specific options may only appear after you sign in, and the details can vary by customer; Kiplinger describes an example where added features may come with a changed perk or an additional charge. Kiplinger’s report discusses the account-specific plan comparison.
- Find the actual proposal. Open the migration notice and sign in to your T-Mobile account to inspect the proposed plan, effective date, line count, and account-specific terms. Save the notice and a copy of your current bill so you can compare what changes.
- Calculate the full monthly cost. Compare the total for all paid lines, recurring charges, and add-ons—not a single-line headline rate. Identify any perk that was included before but would now cost extra, as well as equipment payments or other charges that are separate from plan pricing.
- Check the terms you rely on. Compare high-speed data terms, hotspot allowance, international features, and streaming or other perks. Count a benefit as valuable only if you would actually use it or otherwise pay for it, and check whether its terms or availability change.
- Assess coverage where you use your phone. Consider home, work, regular travel, and indoor locations. A national coverage claim cannot tell you how service performs in the places that matter to you.
- Decide whether the change is worth its cost to you. Weigh the new monthly total against the features you will use and the service you experience. If the notice does not make a line item clear, ask T-Mobile to explain it before relying on an assumption.
Why “unlimited” does not guarantee the same speed everywhere
T-Mobile says it engineers its network for consistent high-speed data, but also states that customers may experience reduced speeds at times and locations where demand exceeds available network resources. A plan label alone does not promise identical speeds at every place and time. Check the plan’s data and hotspot terms against your normal usage, and consider how congestion could affect the locations and times you use the service. T-Mobile’s network-management policy explains this qualification.

Should you switch phone plans or compare an MVNO?
Switching may be worth investigating if the proposed plan no longer fits your budget or needs, but neither a smaller provider nor another major carrier is automatically cheaper or better for your situation. Compare alternatives on the same practical measures:
- Total cost: monthly cost across your lines and the add-ons you need.
- Local service: coverage and usable performance at home, work, and along regular routes.
- Data needs: high-speed data, hotspot terms, and applicable network-management policies.
- Useful benefits: perks you would genuinely use, including any changed or expiring terms.
- Support and convenience: whether you value retail locations, the provider’s support model, or particular account features.
The evidence offers context, not a prediction for an individual shopper. Consumer Reports’ 2025 buying guide says 56 percent of members who had recently switched carriers reported saving money; that is a survey result, not a promise that switching will save you. Consumer Reports explains its phone-plan savings guidance.

JD Power’s 2025 study reflected feedback from 56,450 customers. In its mobile network operator segments, T-Mobile scored 626 out of 1,000 and ranked highest for postpaid, and scored 617 and ranked highest for prepaid. In the separate MVNO segments, Consumer Cellular led postpaid and Mint Mobile led prepaid. These results are specific to the study’s year and segment; they do not establish coverage or value at your address. JD Power’s Carl Lepper said value was the strongest driver of overall experience, followed closely by service quality. See JD Power’s 2025 study announcement.
