Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchStart by checking whether Fortnite has an exact error message and which platform you’re using. Look for a matching Epic Games support article and check Epic’s current known-issue and service-status channels before changing settings: a post-update problem may affect many players, and its workaround can differ from a local PC or console fix. For PC, work through requirements, file verification, launcher cache, graphics drivers and settings before reinstalling. On PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, check game and system updates, clear the platform cache and power-cycle before reinstalling.
First, identify the symptom and check for a known issue
Note your platform (PC, PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch), when the problem occurs, and any exact error text or code. If Fortnite shows an error, search Epic’s Fortnite support help for that wording; a specific error may have its own instructions.

Before troubleshooting your device, check Fortnite server status, Epic Games status and Fortnite news and updates for a service incident or update-related notice. Known-issue information changes over time, so an old report is not proof that the same problem is active now.
Fix Fortnite crashes after an update on PC
Use this sequence for a crash or failure to launch. It starts with checks that are relatively quick and reversible; save reinstalling for later.

- Extra Usb Ports: Extra USB port and power switch design allows for connecting more USB devices. Warm Tips: The packaged cable is USB to USB connection. Type C connection devices need to prepare an Type C to USB adapter
- Check the requirements. Compare your PC with Fortnite’s minimum PC requirements. If the machine falls short, changing game files or reinstalling may not solve the underlying limitation.
- Verify the game files. In the Epic Games Launcher, open your Library, select the three-dot menu for Fortnite, choose Manage, then select Verify. The launcher checks the installation and repairs files it finds damaged or missing. See Epic’s file verification instructions if the labels differ in your launcher version.
- Clear the launcher cache if the problem persists. Follow Epic’s current Epic Games Launcher cache steps. This is a launcher troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix for every crash.
- Update your graphics driver. Use the driver update appropriate for your graphics hardware and follow Epic’s graphics-driver guidance. For hitching or crashing that began after an update, Epic says updating or reinstalling the driver may help; that does not establish the driver as the cause in every case.
- Try Epic’s targeted settings-file step. For crashes after a PC update, Epic instructs users to delete
GameUserSettingsin%localappdata%FortniteGameSavedConfigWindowsClient, then launch Fortnite again. To get there, press Windows+R, enter%localappdata%FortniteGameSavedConfigWindowsClientand press Enter. Delete theGameUserSettingsfile in that folder, not the folder itself. This removes a local settings file; Fortnite may recreate it with default settings on launch. Consult Epic’s instructions for crashes after a PC update if the path or file differs on your system.
If those steps do not resolve the crash, Epic’s PC crash troubleshooting includes further options such as running the launcher as administrator, checking background applications and the drive, reinstalling the launcher or game, trying another drive, and contacting the hardware manufacturer. Move to those more disruptive checks only after the earlier steps.
Fix hitching, low FPS, stuttering or graphics problems on PC
Reduce graphics load and check the rendering mode
For visual problems or unstable performance, check that the PC meets Fortnite’s requirements and review the in-game video settings. Epic recommends trying Low quality settings, then raising options gradually if that improves the problem. This can help distinguish a settings-related issue from a crash that needs another fix.

On a laptop or a PC with more than one graphics processor, Fortnite may be assigned to integrated graphics instead of the higher-performance GPU. Adjust Windows performance settings
For low FPS, frame drops or stuttering, Epic’s Windows recommendations include choosing a performance power plan, enabling Game Mode and turning off Xbox Game Bar. Follow the current performance troubleshooting steps for the relevant Windows controls. These are performance adjustments, not a specific fix for every post-update crash.
Consider heat only when the timing fits
If graphics problems appear after extended play, overheating is one possibility to check rather than a default explanation for a crash that started after an update. Unblock vents, clear dust from fans and airflow areas, and use the PC in a well-ventilated space. Epic’s PC graphics troubleshooting covers these checks.

Fix Fortnite problems on PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch
Console troubleshooting is different from PC: do not apply Windows file or driver steps to a console. Use the current instructions for your specific platform where steps vary.

- Check known issues and updates. Review Epic’s Fortnite news and updates and service status, then check for a Fortnite game update on your console.
- Install console system updates. Check the console’s system software settings and install any available update.
- Clear the console cache. Follow the current cache-clearing instructions for your PlayStation, Xbox or Switch model. The procedure is platform-specific; use Epic’s console crash troubleshooting as a starting point.
- Power-cycle the console. Fully shut it down, disconnect power as directed for the model, wait briefly, reconnect and restart. Avoid interrupting a system update.
- Reinstall Fortnite if the earlier steps fail. Remove and reinstall the game using the console’s normal game-management controls. This takes longer and requires downloading the game again, so it is not the first step.
If the problem continues, contact the relevant platform’s support service. For an unresolved PS5 or Xbox Series X|S problem that does not match a listed known issue, Epic also recommends submitting an in-game bug report so the team can receive logs; see its console troubleshooting article.

When to escalate
- Several players report the same symptom: keep checking Epic’s status and known-issue channels for an incident or workaround instead of repeatedly changing local settings.
- Only your PC is affected after basic checks: use Epic’s crash or performance instructions for the symptom, then consider its later-stage launcher, drive, background-app or manufacturer-support options.
- A console still crashes after updates, cache clearing, a restart and reinstall: contact the platform manufacturer’s support service; use Epic’s in-game bug-report option for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S cases described above.
