If your Fitbit stats are not updating, keep the device near your phone, turn on Bluetooth and internet access, open the Google Health app, and try a manual sync before changing any pairing. The right next steps depend on whether you have a Fitbit wearable, an Aria Air scale, or a Google Pixel Watch—and whether your phone is Android or iPhone/iPad.
First identify what is failing
“Fitbit Air” can refer to the Aria Air scale, while trackers and watches use a different sync process. Google Pixel Watch also has separate troubleshooting guidance. Use the Aria Air steps below only for that scale; for a wearable, follow the wearable checks.

A connection problem can show up as old stats, a sync error, stopped phone notifications, or incorrect device time. Those signs help identify a sync issue, but do not by themselves establish that the device is damaged.

- Bring the device close to your phone. Keep Bluetooth on and make sure the phone has Wi-Fi or cellular internet access.
- Open the Google Health app and sync. On Android, open the app’s Connections view and pull down until a progress bar appears. On iPhone or iPad, open the app and try syncing there.
- Refresh the connection if it still fails. Close and reopen the app, then turn Bluetooth off and back on and try again.
Check phone permissions and background restrictions
Android
Android can allow manual syncing while restricting automatic background transfers. In the phone’s app settings for Google Health, allow background data and unrestricted mobile data, and permit background use without battery restrictions. Menu labels differ by manufacturer and Android version.

On Android 11 and earlier, location permission may also be relevant: Bluetooth scanning is tied to location services on those versions. This does not mean the app needs location for every sync on every Android phone.
iPhone and iPad
Check that Google Health has Bluetooth, Background App Refresh, and Cellular Data access enabled in iOS or iPadOS settings. If one permission is off, syncing or background updates may be limited.

Update the software
Install available updates for the Google Health app, the phone’s operating system, and the Fitbit device. During a device firmware update, Google advises keeping the device within 2–3 feet of the host phone and ensuring it has adequate charge.

Fix Aria Air scale syncing separately
For an Aria Air weigh-in to transfer, keep the Google Health app open on a nearby phone or tablet and make sure Bluetooth is on. Check the scale display for a critically low battery, which can interfere with syncing.

Reduce Bluetooth competition while weighing in: move other phones that sync with the scale out of range or turn off their Bluetooth temporarily. The scale’s weigh-in workflow is different from syncing a wearable in the background, so a wearable-only troubleshooting step may not address an Aria Air transfer.
Reduce competing connections
Keep the Fitbit device near the phone you intend to use. If the app is installed on other nearby phones or tablets signed in to the same account, remove the app from those devices as directed by Google’s sync guidance. Also make sure the Fitbit is not paired to another nearby phone.

Restart, then re-pair only if needed
- Restart both devices. Restart the Fitbit and the phone, reopen Google Health, and try syncing again.
- Remove the old connection profile as a later step. Remove the Fitbit from the app or account, then forget it in the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Set it up again in Google Health. Follow the app’s setup flow and retry syncing.
Re-pairing removes the existing connection profile, so it is worth trying only after the simpler connection, settings, and restart checks. On Android, clearing the Google Health app cache is another documented advanced option for persistent connectivity problems.
If only some features or data are affected
Manual syncing, automatic background syncing, phone notifications, and a scale’s weigh-in transfer are related but distinct behaviors. If manual sync works but automatic updates do not, focus first on background permissions and battery restrictions. If stats update but notifications do not, check the app’s notification permissions rather than assuming the sync connection has failed. For an Aria Air that does not transfer a weigh-in, use its nearby-phone, open-app, Bluetooth, and battery checks.

When to contact support
If the relevant checks for your device and phone have not restored syncing, contact Google Health customer support from the app or the official Help Center. Do not factory-reset a device or assume that data must be deleted or hardware replaced unless support instructions for your specific model call for that step.
