If FFmpeg reports an authentication error when starting a YouTube Live loop, first replace the key in FFmpeg with the current stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. If that does not fix it, check the channel’s livestream eligibility, confirm the server URL and key are in the correct fields, then distinguish a rejected key from an RTMPS connection, network, or stream-format problem. YouTube’s published guidance does not identify a special authentication requirement for channels in India.
Refresh the YouTube stream key first
YouTube’s first-line fix for an error starting a third-party encoder is to get a current key in the Live Control Room and update the encoder. A stream key works like the password and address for the stream, so treat it as secret.

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Go Live to open the Live Control Room.
- Select the Stream tab and copy the stream key for the intended live stream.
- Replace the key in your FFmpeg setup, taking care not to add spaces, line breaks, or other characters when copying it.
- Retry the stream. If you suspect the old key was exposed or is stale, reset it in YouTube Studio, then update FFmpeg with the replacement before trying again. A channel owner or manager can reset the key.
Do not post the key in a public command, screenshot, log, or support forum. If you have shared it, reset it and update the encoder that uses it.

Check whether the channel can livestream
A valid key cannot make an ineligible channel go live. YouTube’s general livestream guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and the user must be at least 16 years old. These are YouTube account conditions, not India-specific FFmpeg settings. If the channel fails an eligibility requirement, resolve that with YouTube before troubleshooting encoder authentication further.

Verify the server URL and key fields
In the Live Control Room, confirm you are using the server URL and stream key for the stream you intend to start. In your FFmpeg configuration, check that the server URL is the destination and the stream key is supplied as the stream’s key—not accidentally swapped, truncated, or copied from another stream. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions require both the YouTube Live server URL and the stream key.
Make one change at a time and retry. If the current key and matching destination still produce an error, use the wording of the error to choose the next check rather than repeatedly resetting the key.

Identify which kind of startup error FFmpeg is reporting

An SSL or timeout message is not, by itself, evidence that the key is invalid. Likewise, a format error points to the media being sent, not necessarily to credentials.

Fix RTMPS and connectivity problems separately
For an SSL certificate or connection-timeout error, use the RTMPS URL shown in the Live Control Room and make sure the destination uses the rtmps protocol. YouTube’s RTMPS guidance identifies port 443 for the documented SSL and timeout cases; use the URL and port information YouTube provides for your stream rather than guessing a destination. Confirm that the FFmpeg build you are running supports RTMPS.

If the RTMPS settings look correct but the connection still times out, test outbound connectivity from the machine or network running FFmpeg. YouTube recommends checking the encoder’s local output and testing connectivity; if the connectivity test indicates a problem, contact your internet service provider. A failure on one connection does not establish that Indian networks are blocked generally.

If YouTube reports an incorrect format, verify that FFmpeg is sending H.264 video and AAC audio, as YouTube’s live-stream error guidance specifies. Also inspect the encoder’s local output and use a current version of the encoder. These checks help identify output or compatibility problems, but they do not replace refreshing a rejected key or correcting an account eligibility issue.

What this means for a YouTube Live loop in India
The official YouTube guidance relevant to stream keys, eligibility, RTMPS, and encoder errors describes general requirements; it does not establish an India-only authentication rule, special Indian stream key, or country-specific FFmpeg option. If a correctly configured RTMPS connection times out on a particular Indian network, investigate that connection’s outbound path with the connectivity test and your ISP rather than assuming a nationwide restriction.
