If Dragon’s Dogma 2 crashes, stutters, or runs slowly on your PC, start by checking the game’s current requirements, then work through reversible Windows, driver, Steam, and graphics settings checks one at a time. Capcom’s troubleshooting steps can help narrow down common causes, but none guarantees a fix for every PC; the Steam listing also cautions that frame rate may fall under high processing load.
Check whether your PC meets the current requirements
Compare your Windows version, processor, memory, and graphics card with the requirements on the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Steam store page. These are the listing’s current PC specifications, accessed October 9, 2026; check the live page because requirements can change.

The performance figures are the store’s stated targets, not independent benchmark results or a promise that every area will hold those frame rates. The listing says, “Frame rate may drop when the processing load is high.” It also says an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6800 is required to support ray tracing.

- If your PC is below the minimum, Capcom warns that the game may run poorly or may not run.
- If it meets minimum but not recommended specifications, try lowering graphics settings before assuming a component has failed.
- On laptops, a mobile GPU can perform much worse than a desktop GPU with a similar name or nominal specification, according to Capcom’s Steam FAQ.
Try these troubleshooting steps in order
Change one thing at a time and retest where practical. That makes it easier to tell whether a step changes the problem; it does not guarantee that any particular step will resolve it.

- Install Windows and graphics-driver updates. Capcom recommends current Windows updates and graphics drivers. Restart the PC after installing a graphics driver. If problems continue, Capcom suggests trying a clean driver installation; third-party cleanup utilities are optional, not a required Capcom step.
- Verify the game files in Steam. In Steam, open your Library, right-click Dragon’s Dogma 2, select Properties, open Installed Files, and choose Verify integrity of game files. Wait for the check to finish, then try launching the game again.
- Temporarily close background apps and overlays. Quit resource-heavy applications, recording software, and performance overlays before launching the game. Capcom warns that applications consuming system resources, including recording applications and performance overlays, can compromise performance and stability.
- Make sure the game uses the intended GPU. On a PC with integrated and discrete graphics, Windows may select the integrated GPU. Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics, select or add the game, choose Options, then set it to High performance. Some high-end integrated and laptop discrete GPUs may work, but Capcom says they are not tested or officially supported.
- Review graphics-driver and Windows power settings. Check the graphics settings in your GPU driver software and the PC’s power mode. Capcom recommends reviewing these settings and resetting driver settings if trouble persists. Avoid changing several performance options at once, so you can identify any effect.
- Delete the game’s shader cache files only if present. Close the game and look in its installation folder, where the game executable is located, for files named
shader.cacheorshader.cache2. If present, delete only those named game cache files. Capcom directs users to the GPU manufacturer for guidance on clearing driver-generated shader caches; do not treat those as the same files. - Check security software and administrator access. Capcom notes that security software can falsely block the executable, contributing to launch problems or frame drops. Consult your security software’s instructions if you need to add the game folder or files to its exclusions. Capcom also suggests trying Steam and the game with administrator privileges.
- Check compatibility, display, DirectX, ventilation, and codecs. These are additional checks in Capcom’s troubleshooting guidance. Review compatibility settings and display configuration, confirm DirectX support, ensure the PC has adequate ventilation, and check that required codecs are available. If you change graphics settings, close and restart the game if needed.
Prioritize checks based on the symptom
If the problem is low FPS or stuttering
- Compare your system with the current requirements; if it falls short of the recommended level, lower graphics settings.
- Close background applications, recording tools, and overlays that may consume resources.
- Confirm that the game is using the discrete GPU, if your PC has one, and review power settings.
- Keep the Steam listing’s processing-load warning in mind: a listed target does not mean every scene will maintain a fixed frame rate.
If the game crashes or will not launch
- Update Windows and the graphics driver, restart the PC, and verify the Steam game files.
- Check whether security software is blocking the game, and try administrator access as Capcom suggests.
- Review DirectX and compatibility settings. If visual or audio problems accompany the crash, note those details for support.
These are diagnostic checks, not a way to identify a particular cause without information about your PC and the exact failure.

If the checks do not resolve the issue, use the Dragon’s Dogma 2 support category. Capcom asks players reporting persistent visual or audio problems or crashes to provide detailed information. Include your PC specifications, Windows version, graphics-driver version, the exact symptom or error text, and the steps you have already tried.

For Steam installations, Capcom’s FAQ identifies the executable as DD2.exe and gives this default game folder: C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonDragons Dogma 2. Your game may be installed in a different Steam library, so use the folder on your own PC rather than assuming the default path applies.
