Check whether DMZ matchmaking trouble is service-side
Before changing router settings, check the Activision Online Services status page for the Call of Duty service indicator and any alerts. Activision says an indicator that is not green or a posted alert can signal service problems. Use the same page to find links to the relevant platform’s network-status service, then check that service too. These pages are live and can change.

If an outage or maintenance alert is posted, local router changes are unlikely to be the first useful step. Wait for the service issue to clear and test DMZ again. A status page that shows services available does not by itself prove that your individual connection is healthy.
Test your local connection first
When the service checks look clear, reduce possible local causes before adjusting router configuration:

- Restart your router and gaming device if practical, then try matchmaking again. Activision includes router and device restarts among its general connection tips.
- If available, connect the console or PC to the router with Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi. Activision Support says, “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay.” A cable is optional hardware, not a fix for a server-side outage.
- Pause bandwidth-heavy downloads, streams, or other applications on your network while testing. Activision recommends limiting competing bandwidth use.
These checks help distinguish a possible local connection issue from a service problem, but they do not identify a specific cause for every matchmaking failure.
Try Activision’s router settings in stages
Activision’s Warzone connection guidance describes router settings that are typically found in the router’s configuration menu and advises testing after each change. Follow your router maker’s instructions; menu names differ, and you may not need to try every step.

- Try UPnP first. If port forwarding is enabled, turn it off and enable UPnP. Test DMZ matchmaking before changing anything else.
- If the problem continues, try manual port forwarding. Turn off UPnP, enable port forwarding, assign a static IP address to the console, and test again. Do not guess at port numbers: the cited guidance does not establish a DMZ-specific port list.
- Use the DMZ option only as a temporary test. If the previous test did not resolve the issue, turn off port forwarding and assign the console’s static IP to the router DMZ. Test the connection, then remove that static IP from the DMZ. Activision lists this as a troubleshooting step, not a permanent setting.
Change one setting at a time and retest so you can tell whether a change helped. The guidance does not establish one universally best router configuration for every home network.
When to contact your ISP or network administrator
If the service checks and connection tests do not resolve DMZ connection problems, Activision advises contacting your internet service provider. If you play on a school, corporate, or other shared network, ask its network administrator for help; you may not have permission to change the network settings yourself.
