If Satisfactory shows Connection TIMED OUT, the most specific fix is usually on the dedicated server: increase the initial-connect timeout to 180 seconds and the connection timeout to 120 seconds in Game.ini, then restart the server. On the player side, set Network Quality to Ultra, add the server through Server Manager, wait until its world has finished loading, and confirm that the client and server use the same game build. This order addresses the common server-startup, handshake, and version problems without changing unrelated settings.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Satisfactory servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
What “Satisfactory connection timed out” means
A timeout means the game did not complete its connection handshake before the waiting period expired. It does not, by itself, prove that the server is offline or that your internet connection has failed. A dedicated server can be reachable while still starting its world, registering a player session, or exchanging too little data to complete the handshake.

Start with this order of fixes
- Server administrator: edit the dedicated server’s
Game.ini, append the two timeout settings shown below, save the file, and restart the server. - Player: open Options > Gameplay > Network Quality, choose Ultra, and apply the setting.
- Return to the main menu and add or select the dedicated server from Server Manager; do not rely on the ordinary Join Game route for a dedicated server.
- After selecting the server, wait for the world to finish loading. A cold start commonly takes one to three minutes and can take longer with a large save.
- Confirm that the client and server are running the same game build. Restart the server after a Steam or Epic update.
- If the error persists, check the server log, verify the default ports, and test once through a phone hotspot to separate a local-network problem from a server problem.
Raise the dedicated-server timeouts
This is the most targeted remedy when several players time out while joining the same dedicated server. The hosting documentation that specifies these values recommends adding the entries at the bottom of Game.ini:
InitialConnectTimeout=180
ConnectionTimeout=120
The numbers are seconds: the initial connection may wait up to 180 seconds, and an established connection may wait up to 120 seconds for the required traffic. These are provider-documented settings, not values published in an official Coffee Stain support statement. If your host uses a different configuration interface, use its file editor to make the same change and confirm that it writes to the active server configuration.
Linux dedicated-server location
For a Linux server, the documented folder is FactoryGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer. Open the Game.ini file in that folder. The exact full path before FactoryGame depends on how the server was installed, so do not create a second copy in an unrelated directory.
Safe editing procedure
- Stop the dedicated server cleanly before editing its configuration.
- Make a backup copy of
Game.iniso you can restore the previous settings. - Open the active file and append the two lines at the bottom, each on its own line.
- Save the file as plain text. Do not add quotation marks, commas, or a file extension such as
.txt. - Start the server and allow the world to load completely before attempting to join.
- If the host panel regenerates configuration files on startup, check that the entries remain after the restart; otherwise, edit the persistent configuration mechanism supplied by that host.
When a timeout increase helps
- Several players fail during the first join attempt, especially immediately after a restart.
- The server eventually appears online, but a large save takes longer than the original timeout to initialize.
- The log records a timeout while the server is still registering the player session.
When it is not the right fix
A longer timeout cannot correct a wrong game version, a blocked port, an incorrect address, or a server process that has crashed. If the server never reaches a ready state, inspect its startup log and hosting-panel status before repeatedly increasing the values.
Set Network Quality to Ultra on the client
On the affected PC, open Options > Gameplay > Network Quality, select Ultra, and apply the change. Cybrancee’s troubleshooting guidance recommends this because the higher setting increases the data exchanged with the server during connection establishment. It is a client-side change, so every player who experiences the timeout can test it without access to the server files.

- Sculpt mountains, gouge valleys, and seed forests

Change only this setting first. If Ultra lets you connect, keep it while diagnosing the server. If it has no effect, return to the server-side timeout and version checks rather than changing unrelated graphics or performance options; those settings do not control the network handshake.
Join a dedicated server through Server Manager
Dedicated servers should be added and opened from Server Manager on the main menu. LOW.MS documentation and a 2024 Steam discussion both describe using Server Manager instead of the standard Join Game path as a workaround for dedicated-server connection failures.
- Return to Satisfactory’s main menu.
- Open Server Manager.
- Add the dedicated server using the address and query details supplied by the administrator.
- Select the saved server entry and start the connection from that entry.
If the server is already listed but still times out, remove and re-add the entry only after confirming the address and port with the administrator. Recreating an entry will not repair a server that is still loading or running a different build.
Wait for the world to finish loading
A cold dedicated-server start can take one to three minutes, and a large save may require longer. Attempting to connect while the process is still loading can look exactly like a network timeout because the server has not yet completed the session-registration work needed to admit a player.
How to tell whether the server is still starting
- Ask the administrator whether the server was restarted immediately before your attempt.
- Check the host panel or console for ongoing world-load activity rather than an error or crash.
- Wait several minutes after a restart, then make one new connection attempt instead of sending repeated attempts while the save is loading.
If the world never reaches a ready state, waiting longer will not solve it. Move to the log checks below and verify that the server process has not stopped during startup.

Match the client and server versions
The player and dedicated server must run the same game build. An automatic Steam or Epic update can leave a running server on the previous build while the client has already moved forward. In that situation, timeout symptoms can persist even when the address, ports, and internet connection are correct.
- Check whether the client updated immediately before the problem began.
- Ask the administrator whether the server was updated to the same build.
- Restart the dedicated server after the update so that it loads the new executable and configuration.
- Have the player restart the game client as well, then reconnect through Server Manager.
Because the available guidance does not specify a particular 2026 build number, compare the version labels shown by the current game and server tools rather than relying on an old number from a forum post.
Check ports and isolate the network
LOW.MS lists 7777 for game traffic and 8888 for reliable messaging as default ports that may be blocked on restricted networks. The actual values can differ if the administrator changed them, so confirm the configured ports before opening or forwarding anything.
Server-side checks
- Confirm that the dedicated-server process is listening on the configured game and reliable-messaging ports.
- Check the host firewall, operating-system firewall, and any router rules for the same ports and protocols used by the server.
- Verify that the address given to players points to the current server rather than an old public address or an internal LAN address.
- Restart the server after firewall or port changes so the host panel and process reload the configuration.
Player-side hotspot test
Connect the gaming PC to a phone hotspot for one test. If the dedicated server works over the hotspot but not on the normal connection, the result implicates the original network’s firewall, filtering, routing, or port policy. If both connections fail, focus on the server’s readiness, configuration, and version match. A hotspot test is a diagnostic comparison, not a permanent recommendation; mobile connections may have latency or data limits.

Interpret the common entries
| Log or symptom | What it indicates | Next check |
|---|---|---|
Connection TIMED OUT |
The connection did not complete within the active timeout window. | Apply the documented timeout values, then check world-load time, ports, and versions. |
RegisterPlayerWithSession |
The server was handling player-session registration when the attempt failed. | Confirm that the server had finished loading and that the client used Server Manager. |
IsOnline: false in a player-timeout report |
The server recorded the player as no longer online during the exchange. | Compare client and server versions, test the network path, and inspect firewall or port rules. |
| No corresponding log entry | The attempt may not have reached the server process. | Check the address, configured ports, firewall rules, and whether the server is running. |
Capture the timestamp of a failed attempt and match it to the server log. This prevents confusing an old timeout with the current connection test and helps an administrator distinguish a player-specific failure from a server-wide one.
Older community workarounds: use with caution
Two older community reports describe unchecking server options that pause the server when it is empty and save when a player disconnects. A CubeCoders discussion and a Satisfactory forum thread associate those settings with successful joins for some users. The reports predate current builds, and neither establishes that the workaround remains effective today.
If the supported timeout, Network Quality, Server Manager, loading, version, and port checks do not help, an administrator may test those two options one at a time:
- Record the current values so they can be restored.
- Disable the empty-server pause option and restart the server.
- Test one connection after the world is ready.
- If there is no change, restore that value, test the save-on-disconnect option separately, and restart again.
Do not treat a successful result as proof that either option is required. Leaving them disabled can change server behavior when nobody is connected, so restore the original configuration if the test provides no clear benefit.
Choose the right owner for each fix
| Action | Who can perform it | Effort | Evidence and limitations |
|---|---|---|---|
Raise InitialConnectTimeout to 180 and ConnectionTimeout to 120 |
Server administrator | Edit one file and restart | Most specific values available; documented by a hosting provider, not an official developer notice. |
| Set Network Quality to Ultra | Player | One menu change | Recommended by hosting guidance to increase connection data exchange; it cannot fix a stopped server or mismatched build. |
| Use Server Manager | Player | Change the join path | Supported by hosting guidance and a 2024 community report; intended for dedicated servers. |
| Wait for world loading | Player and administrator | Usually one to three minutes, longer for large saves | Prevents a premature timeout during cold start; does not repair a crashed startup. |
| Match versions and restart after updates | Player and administrator | Update and restart both sides | Required for compatibility; exact current build numbers are not established here. |
| Verify ports or use a hotspot test | Mostly administrator, with player network test | Firewall and connectivity checks | Useful when restricted networks block default ports 7777 or 8888; custom port assignments must be confirmed. |
| Disable empty-server pause or save-on-disconnect | Server administrator | Experimental configuration test | Older anecdotal reports only; current-build effectiveness is unverified. |
After the fix: confirm it is actually resolved
- Restart the server after the final configuration change.
- Wait until the world is fully loaded.
- Set the player’s Network Quality to Ultra.
- Join from Server Manager.
- Remain connected long enough to load into the world, then disconnect and reconnect once to ensure the fix was not limited to the first attempt.
- If only one player still fails, compare that player’s network path and game version with a player who can connect. If everyone fails, return to server logs, ports, and server readiness.
Keep a note of which change worked and restore experimental settings that made no difference. This leaves the server with the smallest configuration change necessary to maintain reliable connections.
When to contact the host or server administrator
Escalate with the exact error text, the time of the failed attempt, the client platform (Steam or Epic), the server’s current build, whether the timeout affects every player, and the relevant log lines. Include whether the timeout values were added, whether the world had finished loading, whether Server Manager was used, and the result of a hotspot test. Those details let the administrator investigate a server-wide handshake problem without asking you to repeat unrelated settings changes.
If the host confirms that the server is running the current build, listening on the configured ports, and reaching a ready state, but the timeout continues, there is no documented official developer fix identified for this error as of October 14, 2026. At that point, preserve the logs and report the reproducible steps through the game’s current support channels rather than relying on an unverified claim that a particular community workaround is permanent.
