The right fix depends on what is wrong: unstable faces or appearance usually call for a cleaner source image and a new generation; unwanted cuts or camera movement call for clearer shot instructions; Premiere Pro’s Anti-flicker Filter is documented for flickering thin lines and sharp edges on interlaced displays; and upscaling is for resolution, not temporal defects. There is no general-purpose repair established here for morphing faces, so avoid treating one filter or an upscale as a cure for every artifact.
First, identify what is changing
Watch the clip beside its source image or neighboring footage, and identify the symptom before editing or regenerating. A defect that changes from frame to frame is different from softness, a sudden cut, excessive camera movement, or a fine line that flickers only on an interlaced display. Runway cautions that visible defects in an input image can become more pronounced when it is animated, while Adobe’s filter guidance addresses a narrower display-related problem.

- Changing faces, hands, or details: identity or appearance is unstable over time.
- A sudden change of shot: the generated clip cuts when you wanted continuity.
- Unwanted movement: the camera moves more than intended.
- Fine lines or sharp edges flicker: the issue may match Premiere’s documented interlaced-display case.
- The whole clip looks soft or too small: this is a resolution or detail issue, not necessarily flicker.
Fix unstable faces and changing appearance
Start with a clean source image
Inspect the still used to start the generation. Blurred or malformed faces and hands, motion blur, and action poses can all be warning signs. Runway says an image establishes the composition, subject, lighting, and style, and that visual artifacts such as blurry faces or hands may intensify when the image is transformed into video. Its Image to Video Prompting Guide therefore supports a practical first step: correct or replace a visibly defective source before asking the model to animate it.

For image-to-video generation, focus the prompt on motion rather than repeating details already visible in the still. State the subject’s action, any environmental movement, and the desired camera behavior in direct language. If the source implies one movement—for example, through motion blur or an action pose—but the prompt asks for another, remove or minimize that conflicting cue where possible. For ordered actions, describe the sequence clearly and keep its complexity suitable for the clip duration. Runway presents these as ways to guide iteration, not guarantees of a stable result.

Know when to regenerate instead of trying to repair
If a face or other identity changes markedly from frame to frame, try a cleaner source, simpler motion, or a shorter shot and generate again. The evidence here does not establish a reliable, general-purpose face-restoration control for AI-generated video. A 2022 preprint on temporally consistent semantic video editing discusses facial-identity loss and temporal flicker in some per-frame editing approaches; it does not provide grounds to promise that a general deflicker filter or upscaler will restore identity in any generated clip.
Reduce unwanted cuts and camera movement
When the shot cuts unexpectedly
Make the intended continuity explicit in the prompt—for example, describe a continuous, seamless shot—and try a longer duration if the tool’s available settings allow it. Runway recommends these as iteration strategies in its prompting guidance. They may help communicate the goal, but do not guarantee that the model will avoid every cut.
When the camera moves too much
Specify what should move within the frame and what should remain still. If you want little or no camera movement, say so directly rather than relying on an implied still shot. Runway also suggests stabilizing the result in an editor when appropriate. Stabilization addresses camera movement in the resulting clip; it should not be assumed to fix changing faces or other frame-to-frame appearance shifts.
Use Premiere Pro’s Anti-flicker Filter only for its documented case
Adobe documents Premiere Pro’s Anti-flicker Filter for thin lines and sharp edges that flicker on interlaced displays, not as a general repair for AI-generated facial warping. Adobe notes that increasing filter strength reduces more flicker but also softens the image. Preview the result and use only as much filtering as the affected detail can tolerate; Adobe says filter intensity can be keyframed over the clip. See Adobe’s Premiere Pro guidance on removing flicker, marked last updated August 22, 2025.

Check generated-to-captured transitions separately
If generated material joins captured footage, a visible pop or jitter can come from slight differences between the two sections. Adobe Research explains that even slight differences can cause temporal-coherence artifacts, and that high-frequency texture lost during downsampling and upsampling can produce sudden blur. Its GenExtend approach uses reference-guided decoding and super-resolution, then normalizes contrast and brightness to improve continuity. This describes a research solution, not a universal control available in every editor or video-generation tool. Read the Adobe Research and Firefly team’s explanation of GenExtend.
Upscale only when the problem is resolution
If the clip is simply too small or soft for delivery, an upscaler may add pixels. Runway says its video upscaler leaves video length, frame rate, and aspect ratio intact; it does not claim to repair temporal flicker, unstable identity, or distorted anatomy. Its guidance also says a nominal 4K upscale may not produce exactly 3840×2160, so an editor may be needed if exact UHD dimensions are required. See Runway’s upscaling guidance.
Exporting a project at 4K does not by itself increase the resolution of lower-resolution source footage. Runway’s 4K generation guidance is the relevant reference for its generation capability; distinguish that from choosing a 4K export setting or upscaling an existing clip.
