Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf videos are buffering on your Fire TV Stick, first check whether the problem affects one app or several. Then use Fire TV’s Network Status tool to see whether the connection is weak between the Stick and your router or between the router and the internet. Restarting the affected equipment and trying the app again are sensible early steps; a factory reset or replacement is not a standard first fix.
First, work out whether it is one app or the whole Fire TV Stick
Open another streaming app and, if the menus themselves feel sluggish, note that too. This is a practical way to narrow the problem, not proof of its cause.

- Only one app buffers or will not open: start with that app’s cache, data, and update status.
- Several apps buffer, or the Fire TV interface is slow: check the network and restart the Stick and network equipment.
Check Fire TV’s Network Status
On the Stick, open Settings > Network, select the connected network if needed, and open Network Status. Amazon says the tool can help identify whether the connection problem is between Fire TV and the router or between the router and the internet. It may also show recommendations. Some compatible devices offer a speed test or advanced network details; those options are not available on every model. Follow any recommendation shown on your screen. Amazon Customer Service explains the Fire TV Network Status tool.
If the status points to the Fire TV-to-router connection, focus on Wi-Fi signal and placement. If it points to the router-to-internet connection, the issue may be with the home internet connection or network equipment rather than one streaming app.

Restart the Stick, modem, and router
A restart is reversible and can clear temporary connection or app problems. Amazon’s setup troubleshooting guidance recommends unplugging the Fire TV power adapter for one minute, then plugging it back in. For a modem and router, unplug both for one minute; reconnect the modem first, wait for its internet connection, then reconnect the router. Allow the Stick and network to reconnect before testing a video again. See Amazon’s Fire TV Wi-Fi setup troubleshooting steps.
Improve the connection before buying anything
If Network Status suggests a Wi-Fi connection problem, try moving the router and Fire TV device closer together, where practical, and test again. The Stick’s position behind a television or inside a cabinet may affect its connection; changing placement is a low-cost check before considering new equipment.

Ethernet is another option on compatible Fire TV devices. Some models require an Ethernet adapter, so check the specifications for your exact Stick before buying one. A wired connection can remove Wi-Fi as a variable, but it is not a guaranteed fix for buffering caused by an app, internet service, or another issue. Amazon lists Ethernet as a connection option, and its device specifications identify adapter requirements.

If the problem is limited to one service, clear that app’s cache and check for an update. Menu names and paths vary with Fire OS version, but app controls are generally under Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications. Select the affected app to see available options. Clearing cache removes temporary files; clearing data may remove app-specific settings or require signing in again, so try cache first. Amazon notes that clearing app data and cache can help with intermittent app issues or low-storage messages. Amazon’s app troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking for a Fire TV software update.

A factory reset erases device settings and is more disruptive than restarting or clearing an app cache. The cited Amazon guidance does not establish it as a routine first fix for buffering, so do not begin there. Likewise, consider a router upgrade only if checks point to broader home-network coverage or performance problems; the steps above do not show that any particular router or mesh system is required.
