That is guidance for a particular beta announcement, not a universal two-hour timer or a guarantee for every OnePlus model, region, or build. A recently updated phone with mild symptoms may improve as optimization completes. A phone that becomes severely hot, repeatedly crashes, or remains unusable should not be left indefinitely on the assumption that it will settle.

Before changing anything, note when the update finished, when the first symptom appeared, whether the phone was charging, and whether the problem affects the whole device or one app. Screenshots of battery usage, crash messages, or a black-screen incident can make a later report more useful. Avoid drawing conclusions from a single battery percentage reading or one benchmark run.
Try the low-risk fixes first
1. Update the apps that are affected
OnePlus says third-party app compatibility can contribute to crashes, lag, black screens, or excessive power use after a beta upgrade. Open Google Play and install every available update for the apps that crash, freeze, display a black screen, or appear unusually high in battery usage. If several apps are affected, update all of them rather than only the most obvious one.

2. Give the phone time to settle, then restart
Follow the timing advice in your own release announcement if it gives one. The OnePlus 12 Open Beta notice suggests charging with the screen off for about two hours before restarting, or restarting after normal use. This allows the operating system’s background optimization to run. The interval is release-specific, so do not treat it as mandatory for another phone or as a promise that all heat or drain will disappear afterward.
Use the phone normally while observing it rather than repeatedly interrupting the process with forced reboots. Write down whether heat occurs during charging, idle time, gaming, a particular app, or ordinary browsing. A pattern is more informative than a vague impression that the phone feels warmer.
A OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite 5G user manual says restarting can resolve many issues and documents a force restart using Power and Volume Up. Button behavior and menu names can differ by device, so consult your model’s manual before using a force-restart combination. A force restart can help when the interface is frozen, but it is not a reason to keep repeatedly rebooting a phone that continues to crash or overheat. If the device is responsive, use the normal restart command first.

3. Separate an app symptom from a system symptom
Make a simple comparison: use the phone for a short period with the suspected app closed, then repeat the activity with that app open. Note whether the battery falls or the temperature rises only during that activity. Also note whether crashes occur at launch, after a specific action, or at random. This does not diagnose the cause, but it gives support a reproducible description and can show whether the problem tracks one third-party app.
Do not interpret a single app’s position in a battery list as proof that it caused the drain. An app may appear high because the screen was on while you used it, because it was completing work after the update, or because another system process was active at the same time. Report the repeatable pattern and the relevant times instead of claiming certainty from one percentage.
Understand what the heat does—and does not—mean
OnePlus’s OxygenOS 14.0 User Manual says: “It is normal for your phone to heat up slightly during the update. Once the update is complete, your phone will quickly cool back down.” That statement is narrowly about slight heat during an update. It does not establish that persistent or severe overheating after installing a beta is safe or expected.
The separate OnePlus 12 beta notice describes temporary heat during post-upgrade background optimization. Mild warmth soon after the installation can therefore have an explanation in OnePlus’s own guidance. However, the cited documents do not provide a universal temperature threshold, a guaranteed duration, or a rule that every warm phone is harmless.

Battery-drain checks that do not erase data
Start by recording the conditions: screen-on use, charging status, network conditions, and the apps running when the drain occurs. Avoid relying on generic battery-saving utilities or buying an accessory as a presumed fix. The official material identifies software optimization, app compatibility, feedback, and release-specific rollback—not a physical product—as the relevant remedies for this situation. If the phone is also hot or crashing, prioritize documenting and reporting the combined symptoms rather than chasing a single battery number.

Crashes, lag, and black screens need a reproducible description
For a crash, record the app, the action immediately before failure, whether the app closes to the home screen or the entire phone restarts, and how often it happens. For lag, note whether it affects touch response, opening apps, scrolling, or the whole interface. For a black screen, record whether sound or vibration continues and whether a normal restart restores the display. These details help distinguish an app-compatibility complaint from a broader system instability report without claiming a diagnosis.
Update the affected apps, allow the release’s optimization to run, and restart once. If the same failure is frequent or severe after those steps, move to official feedback rather than repeatedly forcing restarts. OnePlus beta and release announcements identify feedback routes, but the method can differ by release and region. Follow the instructions attached to your own beta announcement rather than assuming a particular Community app option, feedback tool, or code is available on every device. Its rollback instructions warn that the process erases all contents on the phone and requires the designated rollback package. Treat that as a factory-reset-level event: protect photographs, contacts, messages, authenticator information, files, and any app data that is not automatically synchronized.
OnePlus’s general software-update guidance recommends backing up before updates, and the Nord CE 3 Lite 5G manual describes Google Drive backup and restore. The exact backup screens and what each app preserves can differ by model and application. Confirm that important information is actually available in the backup destination before starting a rollback; merely turning on a backup setting is not proof that every item has uploaded.
