Then install any follow-up updates, check which apps are using battery, and test likely causes before restricting apps. Menu names and options vary by Galaxy model, carrier, software version, and country; if a path differs, search Settings for the feature name.
What to do first if the phone is hot
If the phone is uncomfortably hot, especially while charging, disconnect the charger, close running apps, and let the device cool before charging or using it again. Keep it out of direct sunlight and hot environments, and stop using any damaged cable or adapter. Avoid gaming, streaming, or otherwise loading the phone while it is abnormally hot.

A phone and charger can warm during charging, including with Super Fast or wireless charging. Persistent or unusual heat needs attention rather than repeated attempts to charge through it. If heat continues after the phone has cooled, try a compatible Samsung-authorized charger and cable. Do not treat a new charger as a general fix for battery drain.

Samsung’s One UI 7 troubleshooting guidance recommends checking for later software updates; updates after a One UI upgrade can include patches, fixes, and stability or performance optimizations. This guidance addresses One UI 7 and does not establish that every One UI version has the same issue.

- Open Settings and look for Software update or System updates. Install any available update.
- Update apps through both Google Play and Galaxy Store.
- Restart the phone and check whether heat or drain changes during ordinary use.
If the labels differ, search Settings for “Software update.” A restart can clear a temporary problem, but it does not identify the cause if the symptoms return.
Find which app or process is using battery
Before putting apps to sleep or changing broad power settings, inspect battery use. Open Settings > Battery (or the comparable battery page) and review the battery graph and app-use details. Samsung’s One UI 7 guidance specifically recommends checking background apps that use excessive power.

- Look for an app with unexpectedly high use in the background, especially one installed or updated shortly before the symptoms began.
- Update the app first. If its use remains unusually high, temporarily limit or uninstall it to see whether the pattern changes.
- If you cannot identify the cause, test in Safe Mode. If the phone behaves normally there, a downloaded app may be responsible; remove recently installed apps one at a time and check again.

Limit background activity selectively
If battery details point to apps you rarely use, use Settings > Battery > Background usage limits, or the equivalent option on your device, to put suitable apps to sleep. Sleeping apps may have limited messages or notifications. Deep-sleep apps run only when opened, so reserve that option for apps whose background activity you can forgo.

- Keep messaging, security, accessibility, wearable, and other time-sensitive apps out of deep sleep if you rely on their background functions.
- Power saving can reduce background data, performance, display features, or notifications. Enable it only if those trade-offs are acceptable.

Weak or unstable mobile signal, 5G operation, intensive gaming or video use, and background processes can all contribute to battery drain or heat. These are factors to check, not evidence by themselves of a post-update defect.

- Compare battery use in a location with a stable signal.
- For a short diagnostic comparison, reduce demanding app use, lower brightness, or temporarily turn off connectivity you do not need.
- Restore settings and connections you rely on after the comparison.

Samsung describes increased battery use during initial setup and optimization of a new device. That explanation is about the first days of setting up a new phone; it does not promise that battery life will recover within a set number of days after every major One UI update. If the drain or heat persists, continue checking apps, signal, and charging conditions rather than relying on a fixed waiting period. Run diagnostics and arrange support if symptoms persist
Use Samsung Members > Phone Diagnostics > Battery if Phone Diagnostics is available on your device. If the diagnostic indicates a problem, heat remains abnormal, or battery drain continues after the checks above, contact Samsung Support or arrange service through Samsung’s support site for your region. Warranty and repair terms depend on location; a particular repair outcome or cost cannot be assumed.
Samsung’s battery guidance and overheating guidance describe diagnostics and support options. Avoid jumping straight to a factory reset; if you consider one after other checks, back up important data and consult current Samsung instructions first.
