If Audible progress will not sync, a book will not start, or playback cuts out, match the fix to the symptom: reset listening-position sync, check the error code and network, or repair the affected download. Start with the reversible steps below. Audible’s menu labels and device support can vary by app version and platform.
Audible progress is not syncing between devices
Audible says the app automatically syncs your listening position across devices. First make sure each device is signed in to the same Amazon/Audible account. In the iOS or Android app, open Profile > Settings (gear) > Player and check Sync listening position. If it is already enabled, switch it off and back on; this is Audible’s recommended reset. Audible’s app listening guidance describes this control.

If the position still differs, try the title in Audible Cloud Player or on a second compatible device. If playback works there, the comparison may help narrow the issue to one device or app, but it does not establish the cause. Audible also recommends this check when a title will not play. Audible won’t play or shows an error code
Check that the device has an internet connection, Airplane mode is off, and the current network allows streaming. Then use the displayed code to choose the relevant check rather than applying every remedy. Audible’s error-code reference gives these interpretations:

If there is no useful code, compare playback in Audible Cloud Player or on another Audible-ready device. This can indicate whether the problem also occurs outside the current app or device; it is a diagnostic comparison, not a definitive diagnosis.
A book skips chapters, seems incomplete, or has static
Skipped chapters or missing content
An incomplete download may cause chapters to skip or content to be missing. In your Library, open the title’s three-dot menu, remove the download, then download it again. Audible says playback should resume from where you left off after the redownload. Audible’s instructions for titles that will not play or have poor audio cover this remedy.

Poor sound, static, or background noise
In the app, go to Profile > Settings > Data & Storage and change download quality between Standard and High. Remove the existing download and download the title again so the new setting applies. Audible says changing quality may resolve audio problems; it is not a guaranteed fix.

Playback stops when the screen locks or another app opens
On some Samsung and Pixel Android devices, battery settings may restrict Audible in the background. Open Device Settings > Apps > Audible > Battery and choose Unrestricted, if that option is available. This can increase battery use. Audible advises keeping the app updated if you experience excessive battery drain. See Audible’s device playback guidance.

Audible fails on Alexa or Fire devices
Alexa
- Check that the Alexa device is on, connected to the Amazon account, and plugged in or connected as appropriate.
- Confirm the Amazon and Audible usernames match. If they do not, Audible advises combining the accounts.
- If a title is unavailable, check Family settings. Teen profiles cannot access titles in the Family Library.
Fire Tablet
Try rebooting the tablet, removing and redownloading the title, changing download quality, force-stopping the Audible app, or updating the device. Use the download steps above if the problem is limited to one title.
Fire TV
Check internet access, the account signed in to the device, and purchase history. If you use the Fire TV Remote app, check that it is working as well. Audible groups these Alexa and Fire device checks in its playback troubleshooting guidance.

The Audible app crashes or loads slowly
- Force-close Audible, then reopen it.
- Update the app.
- On Android, clear the app’s cache and storage.
- If simpler steps fail, reinstall the app. Audible warns that uninstalling removes downloaded titles and titles marked Finished. You can download titles again and mark them Finished again afterward.
These are Audible’s recommended steps in its app-crash guidance. Treat reinstallation as a later option because of the downloads and Finished status it removes.

When the problem points to downloads rather than playback
If streaming works but downloading fails, or a title will not finish downloading, follow Audible’s separate download-error steps. Keep the distinction in mind: a stream failure, an incomplete downloaded file, account access, and device compatibility can produce different symptoms and need different fixes.
