Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf Apple Podcasts stops playing, downloading, or syncing after an iOS update, the timing alone does not prove the update caused it. First work out whether the problem affects one episode or everything, then check service and internet access, test a downloaded episode offline, and review download and sync settings. These checks can narrow down the symptom without risking your library.
First, identify what is failing
Note whether playback fails for one episode, one show, or every show. Also check whether a downloaded episode fails as well as a streamed one, and whether a sync mismatch affects one device or more than one. These distinctions help narrow the area to investigate, but Apple does not publish a troubleshooting decision tree specific to problems that begin after an iOS update.

- One episode or show: Compare it with other content in Podcasts.
- Streaming only: Test a downloaded episode offline to separate a connectivity symptom from an offline playback symptom.
- Downloads or content will not load: Check Apple service availability and your connection.
- Library or play position differs across devices: Check Sync Library and the Apple Account used on each device.
Check Apple service status and your internet connection
If content will not load or downloads are stuck, check Apple’s System Status for your region. Then confirm that the iPhone can load a website. Apple’s general guidance for Apple services includes Podcasts and recommends checking the network when content stops downloading: If you can’t connect or sign in to iCloud.

#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Test a downloaded episode offline
- In Podcasts, download an episode you can use for the test.
- Open Library > Downloaded and start that episode.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and cellular data, then try playing it again.
Apple documents that episodes in Downloaded can play without an internet connection: Listen to podcasts on iPhone. If the downloaded copy plays offline while streaming does not, investigate internet access or service availability. If the downloaded copy also fails, this test does not identify whether the cause is the episode, the app’s state, or an update-related issue.
Review automatic-download settings
On iOS 18 or later, open Settings > Apps > Podcasts and inspect Automatically Download. If episodes seem to disappear after listening, check whether Remove Played Downloads is enabled.

Check the affected show
Automatic downloads can also be controlled for an individual show. Apple’s guide gives this path: open Library > Shows, touch and hold the show, tap Settings, and review its automatic-download choices. If downloads for that show were paused, open the show and choose Resume Automatic Downloads or Turn On Automatic Downloads, depending on the label shown. See Apple’s instructions for following and managing podcasts on iPhone.
Allow for background-download conditions
Apple Podcasts for Creators says automatic downloads are designed to run in the background when a device is charged and connected to Wi-Fi. Device settings or show preferences can mean downloads start only after the app opens; that context can explain a delay, but it does not prove that every stalled download is expected. See Apple Podcasts for Creators’ automatic-download guidance.

Restore sync between iPhone and other devices
On iOS 18 or later, go to Settings > Apps > Podcasts and make sure Sync Library is on. Confirm that each device is signed in to the same Apple Account. Apple says synced podcast information includes followed shows, channel subscriptions, stations, and current play position.
For devices on iOS 17 or earlier, Apple lists the setting under Settings > Podcasts. Follow Apple’s Sync podcasts across devices instructions for the relevant device and software version.

When basic checks do not resolve it
The official guidance cited here does not establish a specific iOS update as the cause of these symptoms or provide a Podcasts-specific update-regression procedure. It also does not establish deleting Podcasts, resetting network settings, signing out, erasing the iPhone, or reinstalling the app as guaranteed fixes for this issue. Avoid treating those destructive or disruptive steps as proven solutions.

If the problem persists, contact Apple Support. Give them the exact iOS version and iPhone model, describe the symptom, and say whether it affects one episode, one show, or all Podcasts content. Include whether a downloaded episode plays offline and whether the issue occurs on one device or across devices; these details help distinguish the cases without assuming a cause.
