Start by identifying whether the problem is on an Xbox console or in the Xbox app on a Windows PC, then separate a missing game from a failed install or a game that will not launch. Check the account and the game’s availability before trying platform-specific recovery steps; Windows Store commands do not apply to an Xbox console.
First, identify the platform and the failure
Write down the exact error message or code, then decide which situation fits:

- The game is missing: it does not appear in your library or Store search.
- The install will not start or finish: the game is listed, but downloading or installation fails.
- The game is installed but will not launch: installation completed, but opening the game fails.
Also note whether the problem affects one game or several. That helps distinguish a game-specific issue from a broader account, device, or app problem.
Check ownership, account access, and availability
Make sure you are signed in with the account that owns the game or otherwise has access to it. If a game is missing on Xbox One, Microsoft recommends checking My games & apps > Ready to install. Microsoft’s Xbox guidance describes that library check.

A game may also be unavailable because it is not compatible with the device, is not offered in your country or region, is affected by family settings, or is no longer available in the Store. Check the game’s current Store listing for the device you are using, and confirm the account is signed in. If you’re using the Xbox app on Windows
Use Windows recovery steps only when the problem is with the PC Store or app. They are not procedures for an Xbox console.

Reset Microsoft Store
- Close Microsoft Store and the Xbox app.
- Open the Windows Run dialog, enter
wsreset.exe, and press Enter. Microsoft documents this as a way to reset Microsoft Store. - When the Store opens again, retry the download from your library or the game’s product page.

Update, repair, or reinstall the affected app
Install available Windows and app updates. If the problem remains, use Windows’ app repair or reset options for the affected app, or reinstall it if appropriate. Retry from an official library or product page
For PC games, check the Microsoft Store Library or open the Xbox PC app and install from there. The Xbox app provides access to PC games, including titles in the Game Pass library; Microsoft’s Xbox app for PC page describes its PC game access.
If you’re using an Xbox console
Start with the account and library checks above, then verify that the game is currently offered for your console and region. The Windows Store reset command and Windows app repair steps do not apply to console installs.

The Microsoft support material available for this broad problem does not establish one universal console reset sequence or a complete fix for every error code. Avoid applying a reset or buying storage, network equipment, a disc, or repair parts without a specific diagnosis. For a particular console error code, use the current official Xbox support instructions for that code.

- The exact error code or message.
- Your device model and operating system version.
- The game title and whether it is missing, failing to install, or failing to launch.
- The install location and available free storage.
- Whether other games install and launch successfully.
- The account you used and how you access the game.
These details help establish whether the failure is limited to one title, a particular device, or a wider account or app problem.
