First check which OBS source is playing the bhajans: turn on Loop for a single-file Media Source or Loop Playlist for a VLC Video playlist. If playback stops when you change scenes, check the VLC source’s Visibility Behaviour. If OBS keeps playing locally but viewers see buffering, investigate stream delivery instead of the playlist.
Identify what is actually freezing
Watch the source in OBS when the problem occurs. Does the file reach its end and stay there, stop when a scene changes, or continue playing while the stream output becomes choppy? Those symptoms point to different causes. A viewer’s report of buffering alone does not show that the playlist itself has stopped.

OBS has two relevant source types: Media Source for media files and VLC Video for playlists. Their controls differ; use the one that matches your source. See the OBS Media Sources guide and Sources Guide (both dated January 11, 2022).
Fix a file or playlist that reaches the end
For one file: check Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene containing the bhajan media file.
- Select the Media Source in the Sources list and open its properties.
- Check Loop. Enable it if the file should restart when it finishes, then confirm the change.
- Observe playback through the end of the file to confirm it starts again.
For a playlist: check VLC Video
- Select the scene containing the VLC Video source and open its properties.
- Check the playlist entries and confirm the intended media files are present.
- Check Loop Playlist and enable it if the playlist should restart after the last item. OBS describes this control as specifying whether the source should restart when it has run out of media files.
- Test through the playlist’s last item and confirm playback returns to the beginning.
Do not assume the playlist setting is right just because OBS lists Loop Playlist as on by default; check the actual source property.

Check VLC and scene visibility
VLC source unavailable or media behaves unexpectedly
VLC Video depends on VLC libraries, so VLC must be installed. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If the VLC Video source is unavailable or does not handle the media as expected, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS.
Playback stops after a scene change
Open the VLC Video properties and inspect Visibility Behaviour. Its options determine whether playback continues, pauses, or stops while the source is not visible. Choose the behavior that fits your scene layout: for example, choose a continuing behavior if the playlist should keep advancing while another scene is shown. Test by switching scenes and returning to the bhajan scene.

VLC Video also exposes Network caching (ms), with a default shown as 400, and audio-track selection. OBS does not prescribe changing the cache value as a general playlist-freezing fix; do not change it without a specific network-media symptom to investigate.

Tell a playlist problem from an OBS performance problem
If the media visibly advances in OBS but the resulting video is choppy, the issue may be rendering or encoding load rather than looping. OBS’s Encoding Performance Troubleshooting guide, dated June 12, 2021, recommends reducing expensive sources, using media at a resolution suited to the output, removing unnecessary filters, and simplifying complex scenes.

- Reduce costly sources or effects that the scene does not need.
- Use media resolution suited to the stream output instead of making OBS handle unnecessarily large video.
- Remove unnecessary filters and simplify complex scenes.
These steps address performance symptoms; they are not a substitute for checking the correct loop control when a file or playlist simply ends.

If OBS continues playing the bhajans but viewers report buffering, or OBS reports dropped frames, troubleshoot delivery rather than treating it as a frozen source. OBS defines dropped frames as a connection-stability or bitrate-capacity issue. Its Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide (dated September 30, 2024) covers network troubleshooting. Check the connection and bitrate path there; buffering seen by viewers does not, by itself, establish that local playlist playback stopped.

Prevent a repeat during a long stream
- Test the relevant file or playlist through its end before relying on the loop setting.
- Test scene changes if the bhajan source may become hidden while the stream is live.
- Note whether the source stops, OBS output becomes choppy, or viewers report buffering while local playback continues. This distinction narrows the troubleshooting branch.
- If the cause remains unclear, useful details for further diagnosis include your operating system, OBS version, media formats, scene changes, and the OBS log around the failure time.
