If an AION 2 macro does nothing, repeats the wrong skill, or stalls partway through, check its own key binding and active skill preset first. Then inspect the entries and simplify the sequence before changing delay settings. Community guides describe the macro as a priority list rather than a guaranteed, step-by-step script; exact labels and behavior may vary by region or patch, so verify them in your current client.
Start with the symptom

Check the macro binding and control mode
Placing skills on a hotbar is not the same as assigning a key to run the macro. A current community guide gives this path for the macro binding: Settings → Key Settings → General → Gameplay → Macro. It says the macro is unbound by default. Menu names can differ in your client, so look for the macro action in its key settings if this path does not match.

If a mouse button fails to start it, try a keyboard key as a diagnostic. The guide reports that mouse-button macro keys may not work in AION 1 control mode. This is a reported control-mode limitation, not proof that the macro itself is broken. [Community macro guide]

Confirm the active skill preset
Community guidance says macros are saved separately for each skill preset, and changing presets stops a running sequence. Configure the macro on each preset you use, then start it again after switching. If it works on one preset but not another, compare their macro entries rather than assuming the configuration carries over.

Update notes dated July 15, 2026, reproduced by a community site, say per-preset macro saving was introduced and that settings could rarely reset during an update; affected players were told to set them again. Inspect each sequence entry
Use the Macro control in the Skills window to configure the sequence, then review every entry. According to the community guide, a newly added step may initially be set to basic attack, so do not assume the displayed skill is the one you intended. Stacking skills on a quick slot alone may not make the macro execute the sequence you want.

The guide describes the entries as priorities, not a script that guarantees every skill will run once, in the listed order. A skill may be retried while the macro moves on. If the macro appears to choose the wrong move, remove competing main-damage skills or skills with the same cooldown from the sequence or hotkey arrangement, then test a smaller setup. Simplify the sequence and keep timing-sensitive actions manual
For diagnosis, reduce the macro to one or two ordinary, repeatable skills and test against a training target. Add entries back one at a time so you can identify which one changes the behavior.

Community troubleshooting guidance recommends keeping charged, reactive, burst, movement, and other timing-sensitive actions on separate keys. A sequence held continuously may activate a buff as soon as it is ready, even when that is not the moment you want it. One player reported that consecutive instant-recharge skills caused a sequence to stall. That is a useful arrangement to test if it matches your symptoms, but a single report does not establish a universal restriction. [Reddit player report]

Adjust delay only after the setup is sound
Community recommendations differ: one troubleshooting guide suggests starting at 10 ms and increasing slightly if skills are dropped; another reports player approaches of 10–20 ms on a good connection or 40–50 ms with high ping, as well as using 10 ms throughout. These are community suggestions, not an official setting or a universal optimum. Change one delay at a time and retest in your client rather than changing the whole sequence at once. Test skill queuing if inputs seem to be eaten
If inputs are being missed or manual buffs lag, test the combat skill-queue setting in both states. The community guide identifies it as a possible variable for those symptoms; it does not establish that either setting is best for every class, connection, or client. Keep the sequence unchanged while testing so you can tell whether the queue setting made a difference. [Community macro guide]

Keep built-in macros separate from external automation
NCSOFT’s January 28, 2026 update announcement discusses countermeasures against botting and unauthorized automation, as well as a feature for canceling basic attacks with left- or right-click. It also states: “To further limit the use of automated gathering macros, the minimum level required to participate in gathering activities has been increased to level 45.” That policy and update context does not establish that an external device or macro utility fixes the built-in skill macro.
