If a YouTube Live stream stops when its playlist reaches the end, turn on repeat in the OBS source that plays the files: enable Loop for one video in a Media Source, or Loop Playlist for multiple videos in a VLC Video source. YouTube’s playlist loop repeats playback for viewers; it does not restart the source feeding your live broadcast.
First, identify which playlist is stopping
There are two different things that can look like a “YouTube Live loop” problem:

- A playlist you are watching: use YouTube’s viewer-side Loop control. It repeats playback in the watch page, not an encoder feed. YouTube Help explains how to loop videos and playlists.
- A live broadcast showing prerecorded files from OBS: configure repeat in the OBS source that supplies the video. This is the fix when the live picture stops as the last file ends.
If you are using an embedded YouTube playlist rather than OBS, the IFrame Player API uses setLoop(true) to repeat a playlist; looping is off by default. That setting controls the embedded player, not an OBS source. Google’s YouTube IFrame Player API reference states that “The default behavior is that playlists do not loop.”

Make an OBS source repeat
One video: enable Loop in Media Source
- In OBS, find the Media Source that plays the video in your broadcast.
- Open its properties.
- Enable Loop, then apply the change.
- Check that the source plays again from the beginning when the file reaches its end.
OBS documents the Media Source Loop option as replaying a file when playback completes. The source file and OBS must remain available for local playback. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation.

Several videos: enable Loop Playlist in VLC Video
- Add or select a VLC Video source in OBS and configure the files in its playlist.
- Open the source properties and enable Loop Playlist.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off if the files need to play in a particular order.
- Confirm the playlist starts again after its final file.
OBS requires VLC to be installed for a VLC Video source. If you use 64-bit OBS, OBS specifies installing 64-bit VLC as well. The VLC Video source also depends on the playlist files remaining accessible to the computer running OBS. Refer to the OBS Media Sources documentation for the source requirements and controls.
Check which part of the broadcast chain stopped
If the live event still ends after the repeat setting is correct, check the source, encoder output, and YouTube event separately. They are connected, but they are not the same thing.

- Check the source: watch the OBS preview at the point where the playlist reaches its end. If the picture freezes or disappears, confirm the correct source has Loop or Loop Playlist enabled and that its media files are still available.
- Check OBS output: verify OBS remains connected and is still sending the stream. A source can stop playing while OBS remains connected, or the encoder output itself can stop.
- Check the YouTube broadcast: review the event’s auto-stop setting if the encoder feed has stopped. A secondary troubleshooting guide describes auto-stop as one possible reason an ended encoder feed is followed by an ended broadcast; that does not establish that it is the cause in every case. No precise auto-stop delay is established here.
Changing YouTube’s viewer-side Loop control will not restart a stopped OBS source or encoder output.

Choose the repeat control that matches the setup

Common causes and fixes
- The viewer’s playlist repeats, but the live picture does not: enable repeat in the OBS source. The YouTube watch-page control is not an encoder control.
- A single file plays once: enable Loop in that Media Source’s properties.
- A multi-file playlist stops after its last item: enable Loop Playlist in the VLC Video source. Check VLC installation and the matching 64-bit requirement if applicable.
- The source repeats but the broadcast ends: confirm OBS is still sending, then review the YouTube event’s auto-stop setting. Do not assume the repeat option alone can keep the encoder output or event active.
- The files play in an unexpected order: turn off Shuffle Playlist if sequence matters.
