If your TV does not list native 360Hz support for the input and resolution you want, there is no setting or cable that can add it. First check the exact TV model’s supported signal modes, then troubleshoot the source, HDMI input, connection path and cable. If 360Hz is essential and the TV does not support it, use a display built for that refresh rate.
What “360Hz” means—and what it does not
A display’s native refresh rate is different from a motion-processing or marketing number, the signal rate an input accepts, and the frame rate a PC, console or game actually produces. A TV advertising a boosted motion figure is not necessarily able to accept a 360Hz PC or console signal. Check the exact model’s supported input timings instead.

Refresh rate also does not tell you how many frames a game is rendering. HDMI’s explanation of variable refresh rate (VRR) says it lets the source deliver frames at its own pace, which can be slower than the display’s static refresh rate. VRR does not make a game render at the screen’s maximum rate.

Find the full model number on the TV’s label or in its settings, then consult the manufacturer’s specification or manual. Confirm the maximum refresh rate for the exact resolution and input you intend to use. Support can vary by model, year and region; HDMI version branding alone is not proof that a TV accepts a particular mode. Samsung’s regional support guidance warns that HDMI 2.1 gaming support varies by model and year.

If 360Hz is not listed among the accepted modes, stop looking for an unlock setting: the TV does not have documented support for native 360Hz. A high-bandwidth cable or software update cannot change the panel’s capability.
Troubleshoot a lower-than-expected refresh rate
- Connect directly to the TV’s high-refresh input. Temporarily remove an AV receiver, soundbar, switch, capture card or adapter from the video path. Every device between source and TV must pass the intended signal. For supported console modes, Sony advises using the TV input identified for 4K/120Hz or configured for VRR; input labels and locations vary by model. Sony’s guide explains the relevant input and signal-format checks.
- Select the appropriate HDMI signal format. In the TV’s input settings, choose the enhanced or high-bandwidth format required for that port and enable Game Mode or VRR only if the model supports it. Option names differ by manufacturer, model and region; Sony specifically notes these differences in its support guide. Samsung also describes Game Mode, Auto Game Mode, ALLM and VRR options for selected models. Use Samsung’s model- and region-specific guidance rather than assuming every TV has the same options.
- Confirm the source is outputting the mode. On a PC, check the selected resolution and refresh rate in the operating system and graphics control panel, along with the graphics card’s output limits. On a console, check its video information and settings, and whether the specific game has a high-frame-rate mode. Menu names and capabilities depend on the source; a TV cannot display frames the source does not send.
- Check the resolution/refresh combination. A device’s maximum refresh rate may apply only at particular resolutions or on particular connectors. Look up the supported modes for the specific TV input and source output rather than assuming the maximum rate works everywhere.
- Use the cable class specified for the supported mode. A cable can be the bottleneck when the TV and source already support a high-bandwidth signal, but it cannot add unsupported 360Hz capability. For console 4K/120Hz, Sony recommends the included cable or an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. Check Sony’s cable guidance alongside your device manuals.
- Update and retest. Update the TV firmware and source software, restart both devices, then test one resolution-and-refresh combination at a time. Samsung includes software updates and console ALLM/VRR checks in its gaming guidance. Follow the steps for your TV model.
If the TV still reports a lower rate, compare the supported mode at each link: source and game, cable, any intermediate device, TV input and panel. The usable mode is limited by the weakest link. If the manual lists a mode that remains unavailable after these checks, contact the TV maker with the model number and connection details; do not open the TV for a configuration problem.

If you need actual 360Hz, use a display that supports it
A dedicated gaming monitor may be the right alternative when 360Hz is a requirement. For example, MSI specifies its MPG 271QRX QD-OLED as a 2560×1440, 360Hz monitor, while listing console support separately at 120Hz. Check MSI’s input-specific specifications and confirm that the chosen source supports the monitor’s desired mode. A monitor’s native refresh specification should not be compared directly with a TV’s motion-smoothing label.
Before choosing any display, compare native refresh at the target resolution, supported modes by physical input, PC versus console compatibility, available HDMI or DisplayPort connections, VRR support, size and viewing distance. A 360Hz panel does not guarantee that every input or console can drive it at 360Hz.
