Start by finding the exact model number on your Shark robot and opening the matching owner’s guide. Shark robot models use different error lights, codes, and procedures, so do not treat a code or button sequence as universal. Then follow the steps for the symptom below; if the guide identifies a persistent motor, encoder, or charging fault, contact Shark support rather than attempting an internal repair.
Before troubleshooting: identify the model
Use the model number on the robot or its label to find the correct guide on Shark’s official site or the Shark site for your region. Check the guide’s error chart before interpreting a light pattern: on some models, the pattern as well as the number distinguishes faults. The examples below are limited to the model families covered by the cited guides.

If the robot is stuck, stops, or shows an error
Check for simple obstructions first
- Turn the robot off as described in its own manual before cleaning or handling moving parts.
- Remove hair and debris from the side brush, drive wheels, and brushroll. Confirm the wheels and brush can move freely.
- Press the front bumper gently and check that it moves in and out freely.
- Clean the cliff sensors as directed in the manual.
- If the robot is hung up, move it to a level, clear area.
- Remove and reinstall the dust bin, making sure it is fully seated.
These checks address common faults in the US 2400WD and UK RV2620WDUK Matrix guides. Their code chart includes error 2 for several distinct possibilities, including a stuck side brush or wheel, a wheel-motor encoder failure, or a blocked brushroll; error 3 for a suction-motor indication; error 6 for a potentially jammed bumper; error 7 for cliff sensors; error 9 for a dust bin that needs reinstalling; error 10 for an obstacle; error 16 for a stuck robot; error 21 for a boot error; and error 24 for a critically low battery or charging error. Follow the matching guide’s specific checks for the displayed code and light pattern; these meanings are not universal across Shark robots. Shark Matrix owner’s guides
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhen a code points to a component fault
If the exact model’s chart points to an encoder or persistent motor fault, or the basic obstruction checks do not solve the issue, stop troubleshooting and contact Shark support. A code that names a motor or encoder is not a reason to guess at an internal repair.

If the robot will not charge or dock
Check placement and power
- Confirm the charging base is powered and connected using the correct cord for your model.
- Place the robot on the base in the position specified by its guide. For the cited Matrix models, the base indicator should show that a critically low robot is placed correctly.
- For the RV2900XEUK family, Shark’s German support guidance recommends turning the robot off and wiping the charging contacts on both the robot and base with a dry cloth.
If the robot still reports a charging error, consult its exact guide or contact Shark support rather than assuming the cause is a battery or replacing a part without diagnosis. Charging instructions vary by model and region. Shark Matrix owner’s guides · Shark Germany support

If the brushroll is blocked or cleaning is poor
Remove hair and debris around and inside the brushroll first, then check that it spins freely. The cited Matrix manual treats a blocked brushroll as a troubleshooting fault. If the brushroll appears damaged or worn after cleaning, identify the robot’s exact model and confirm compatibility before ordering a replacement; Shark lists replaceable components, but that does not mean one brushroll fits every robot.
