These accessible checks address the obstruction and positioning issues identified in Shark support guidance. If the base still will not empty the robot, check the app or manual for the exact error and contact Shark before ordering parts.
1. Check docking and allow time between emptying cycles
Make sure the base is powered and the robot is seated squarely against its charging contacts. Shark support guidance for self-empty systems says the base indicator changes from green to blue when the robot is correctly positioned. Indicator behavior can vary by model or region, so use the AV2501S manual if its instructions differ.

If the robot has just emptied, wait at least 60 seconds before asking it to empty again. Shark says a robot that returns to the dock sooner may not empty a second time. Let the cleaning cycle finish, then give the dock time to complete its emptying sequence before testing again.
2. Empty and refit both dustbins
- Remove the robot’s dustbin and empty it into a waste container.
- Empty the dustbin in the base as well. A full base bin can interfere with debris transfer.
- Reinstall the robot bin, making sure it is seated correctly.
- Run a cleaning cycle and check whether the robot empties when it returns to the base.
3. Clear the robot bin and debris-transfer path
With the robot and base accessible, remove loose dirt and hair from the robot dustbin and around its lint filter. Check for visible debris blocking the transfer opening at the rear of the robot and the corresponding path at the bottom of the base; clear only accessible obstructions. Hair or compacted dirt in this route can prevent debris from moving out of the robot.
Do not take apart the base, bypass a safety interlock, or probe electrical components. The available Shark troubleshooting guidance covers accessible clogs and routine maintenance, not internal base repair.
4. Maintain the base filters
Clean or maintain all base filters according to the AV2501S manual’s maintenance schedule. The support guidance calls for filter maintenance but does not establish that every filter is washable. Follow the specific manual rather than rinsing a filter unless it explicitly says that filter can be washed.

5. Check app or error guidance, then contact Shark
If emptying still fails, check the robot’s app and AV2501S manual for a displayed error and its recommended action. Shark UK support material associates error codes 26 or 30 with a dust-bin blockage and advises checking both the robot and base bins for clogs. Confirm the exact code and instructions in your own app or manual before relying on that code-specific guidance.

If the bins, transfer route, docking, and filters check out but the base still does not empty, contact Shark support and ask about diagnosis and warranty coverage before buying parts. SharkNinja’s US product page lists a one-year limited warranty and two years of warranty on parts, but those headline periods do not determine whether a particular fault is covered; check your warranty documents or ask Shark.

Which replacement part might apply?
Only consider a replacement after the problem has been diagnosed. Shark lists self-empty base XDOCKAV2501S as compatible with the AV2501S, making it the relevant base to ask about if the base itself has failed. The official product page also lists a Shark 360 Robot Dust Bin (139KY2500) and Shark Robot Pre-Motor Filter (XPRFRV2500); those are relevant only if the corresponding component is damaged, missing, or due for replacement. A new bin or filter is not a guaranteed fix for a blocked transfer path.
