If your Samsung washer will not drain, spin, or fill, start with the exact model number and displayed code, then check the simple external causes before considering a repair. Samsung’s error labels, filter access, hose setup, and procedures vary by model and region; use the manual for your washer as the authority. Find it by searching the full model code on Samsung Support.
Before troubleshooting, note your washer’s full model number, country or market, exact symptom, and any code on the display. That information helps you match each check to the right instructions.

Make the washer safe before troubleshooting
Stop the cycle before inspecting hoses or opening a filter. If you have just run a hot cycle, Samsung advises letting the water cool for about one hour before draining it; residual water may be very hot. Keep towels and a shallow container ready before opening a drain or filter access point.
- Do not remove the rear screw that retains the drain hose. Samsung warns that doing so can cause automatic draining or further errors; a missing hose holder needs service.
- Do not open panels or work on wiring, the motor, or other internal parts. Stop and contact Samsung service for a recurring internal-fault code or a leak you cannot safely control.
- Use the instructions for your exact model. A button sequence, filter location, or hose dimension from another washer may not apply.
Why won’t my Samsung washer drain?
Check the drain setup before assuming the pump has failed. Samsung US identifies incorrect drain-hose installation as the most common reason for drain issues in its troubleshooting guide. A kink, blockage, incorrect insertion or height, or airtight connection can interfere with draining. The washer should also be level.

- Switch off the washer and inspect the visible drain hose for kinks, crushing, damage, or blockage.
- Check that the hose is inserted into the standpipe or sink correctly and is not sealed airtight. Verify the permitted height and insertion depth in your model’s manual.
- If your model has a user-removable pump filter, follow the manual to drain residual water and clean it. Top-load washers do not use this front-loader removable-filter step.
- Run the model’s recommended drain check. If it still will not drain, or the hose is damaged or its retaining holder is missing, contact Samsung service.
For context, Samsung US specifies 6–8 inches of insertion, a standpipe height of 18–96 inches, and a wash-basin height of 24–35 inches in its guide. These are US setup-specific instructions, not universal washer specifications; your model manual and installation arrangement take precedence. Samsung UK likewise cautions that hose height varies by product and incorrect installation can cause siphoning or backflow. How to clean a front-loader pump filter
Only clean this filter if your front-loader has a removable pump filter and the manual describes user access. Turn the washer off, prepare towels and a shallow container, then drain water through the small emergency drain hose if your model has one. Remove and clean the filter as directed, using a soft-bristle brush such as a toothbrush if needed, and reinstall it securely. Samsung recommends cleaning a removable front-loader pump filter about once a month or every 40 washes, whichever comes first. Do not look for this filter-cleaning step on a top loader.

Why is my Samsung washer not spinning?
A washer may fail to reach the spin phase because it has not drained; Samsung says the machine tries to drain before spinning. Check for a drain problem first. If it has drained, redistribute the laundry: tangled items, one bulky item, or a very small load can create an imbalance on some models.

- Redistribute the load, untangling items and balancing the drum, then restart the cycle.
- Check that the door is fully closed and that the selected cycle or settings allow a spin.
- Clean the pump filter only if your front-loader has one and its manual gives a user-cleaning procedure.
- Use Calibration Mode only if the exact model manual documents it; some Samsung washers do not have this mode.
Samsung UK notes that the washer will not tumble or spin unless the door is closed. If the drum never turns, a motor code appears, or the problem persists after these checks, arrange service rather than repeatedly resetting the washer. Why is my Samsung washer showing 4C, or what does 5C/5E mean?
Error codes are clues, not universal diagnoses. Samsung US groups 4C/4E, nF, and related codes with filling problems, and 5C/5E and related codes with draining problems. Labels and code families can differ across models and regions, so look up the displayed code against the full model number in Samsung Support before ordering parts or trying a button sequence.

Samsung’s US, UK, and Australia support pages do not provide one interchangeable code chart for every washer. Confirm the code in the manual or model-specific support page; Samsung’s US error-code guidance and Australia code list illustrate why checking your region and model matters.

Why is my Samsung washer not filling?
For a fill-related code such as 4C or 4E on models that use those labels, check the water supply before seeking parts. Close the valves before disconnecting a hose for inspection, and reconnect hoses carefully.

- Samsung US advises against Flood Safe hoses in its guidance; follow the recommendations for your model and market.
If the code remains after the checks in your manual, contact Samsung Support rather than replacing an inlet valve based on the code alone.

What should I do about a leak, overflow, or suds code?
Leak or overflow
Stop the cycle and switch off the washer if it is safe to do so. Check only visible external hose connections and routing. Do not continue running the machine if water is actively leaking. If the leak continues or an overflow/leak code remains, arrange service. Samsung Australia lists leakage, sensor, motor, voltage, and door-lock fault families and directs users to service when the stated check does not resolve the issue.
Suds
For SUD/5UD or similar labels, check that you are using detergent suitable for the washer and the amount specified for the load. Allow suds to dissipate and follow the model’s procedure. If the code persists without visible suds, use Samsung’s model-specific guidance or contact support.
When to stop DIY checks and call Samsung
External checks can identify a kinked hose, closed valve, unbalanced load, or accessible front-loader filter that needs attention. They cannot confirm an internal component failure. Contact Samsung Support or an authorized service provider if a motor, sensor, electrical, or lock fault returns; if the washer still will not drain or spin after the relevant checks; or if a leak is persistent. Do not buy a universal pump, hose, latch, or control board without a confirmed diagnosis and a fit check for the full model number.
