If your Galaxy A51 says “SIM card is not detected” or “No SIM card detected,” first check whether its SIM status shows a carrier, then confirm the line is active, reset mobile network settings if needed, and carefully reseat or cross-test the SIM. If a known-good, active SIM still is not detected, contact Samsung for service. The message alone does not prove the phone is broken: the SIM, carrier account, settings, or handset could be responsible.
Check whether the A51 detects the SIM
On many Galaxy versions, open Settings > About phone > Status information > SIM card status and look for a carrier name under Network. Menu labels can vary by A51 variant and software version. Samsung’s guidance recommends checking SIM status before assuming hardware has failed: Samsung: SIM card is not detected.

If the SIM appears present and a carrier is shown but calls or mobile data do not work, the phone may be detecting the SIM while service is failing. Check the carrier account, network settings, and coverage rather than treating this as a SIM-reader fault.
Check activation and carrier protections
If this is a new SIM, a replacement phone, or a line recently moved to the A51, ask the carrier to confirm that the line and SIM are active and that no SIM-protection service is blocking activation on the new device. These are account-side checks that only the carrier can confirm. An “Emergency calls only” message may appear when the inserted SIM is damaged or there is no active SIM service; it does not establish that a particular A51 variant supports eSIM.

Try a mobile network settings reset
This reset clears saved mobile-network configuration and reconnects using default settings. It is not a factory reset. On many Galaxy versions, use Settings > General management > Reset > Reset mobile network settings, then confirm the on-screen reset. Menu wording and availability may differ. Restart the phone
Restart from the power menu and check whether the SIM is recognized after the phone starts again. If the touchscreen does not respond, Samsung’s general Galaxy instructions say to hold the Side and Volume Down buttons together for more than seven seconds until the phone restarts. Button behavior can vary, so follow instructions for your device if that combination does not work: Samsung: restart a frozen Galaxy phone.

Reseat the SIM and test another one
Remove and refit the Nano-SIM carefully
- Power off the phone before removing the SIM tray.
- Use the included SIM eject pin if available. Insert it straight into the tray’s eject hole; do not bend it or force the tray.
- Check that the Nano-SIM sits correctly in the tray and that its contacts face the direction shown for your tray. Do not force a SIM that is misaligned.
- If the SIM is dirty, gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid touching its contacts with metal.
- Slide the tray fully back into place, power on the phone, and check SIM status again.
Samsung’s SIM guidance covers correct handling, trying another SIM, and contacting the carrier about replacement: Samsung SIM troubleshooting. A replacement Nano-SIM should come from your carrier; do not buy a specific SIM or assume a replacement will solve a phone-side fault.
Cross-test with another active SIM
If possible, try a different active SIM that is compatible with the A51. You can also try the original SIM in another compatible phone. Use these results to decide who to contact next:

Run Samsung Members diagnostics
If Samsung Members is installed and provides Phone diagnostics, open Samsung Members > Support, start diagnostics, and choose SIM. The available labels can vary. Treat the result as a clue, not proof that every SIM-related hardware component is working.

When to contact Samsung for service
Contact Samsung or an authorized service provider if the SIM is confirmed active and works in another compatible phone, but the A51 still fails to detect it—especially after reseating the SIM and testing another active one. Samsung advises requesting service when a working SIM remains undetected. Remote troubleshooting cannot determine whether the tray, SIM reader, or another part has failed, so do not disassemble the phone or assume a specific component needs replacement.
