Check the selected printer and queue first, then the device and its connection. If those are sound, test another app and check the printer software or driver.
1. Check the selected printer and print queue
Confirm that the document was sent to the printer you mean to use—not an old, duplicate, or disconnected printer entry. Open that printer’s queue and look for the job.

- On Mac: Open the queue from the Print Centre icon in the Dock. If the printer or job is paused, resume it. If an errored job is blocking the queue, select it and delete it; Apple’s instructions are in Solve printing problems on Mac.
- On Windows: Open the printer’s queue and cancel jobs that are stuck. Microsoft’s general instructions for Windows 10 and 11 are in Fix printer connection and printing problems in Windows.
If the job is not in the expected queue, check the printer selected in the app’s print dialog and send it again. A listing that says available does not confirm that the job reached the intended device.

2. Check the printer and its connection
Look at the printer itself before changing computer settings. Confirm it is powered on and not showing an error, then check for paper, paper jams, and adequate ink or toner. A computer’s available status does not rule out a condition that prevents the printer from completing a job.

For a USB printer
Make sure the cable is firmly connected at both ends. If you suspect the cable is faulty, replacement is only relevant if it is compatible with both the printer and computer; a new cable is not a default fix.
For a Wi-Fi or network printer
Check that the printer is connected to the wireless network and that the computer and printer are on the same network. Separate networks, guest Wi-Fi, or extenders can leave the devices unable to communicate even when the printer appears in the list.

Restart the printer
Microsoft recommends turning the printer off, unplugging it, waiting 30 seconds, reconnecting it, and turning it back on. This is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed solution. See Microsoft’s Windows printer troubleshooting guidance.
3. Find out whether the problem is the app or the printer setup
Try printing a simple page from another application. If that works, focus on the original app or document. If neither app prints, check that the correct printer software or driver is installed for the exact model and operating system.

Apple notes that printer software compatibility can affect printing on Mac. Use current software guidance from Apple or the printer manufacturer. Epson likewise advises checking that its product driver is being used in Nothing Prints. Model-specific menu names and fixes can differ.
4. Use the recovery steps for your operating system
Windows 11 and Windows 10
- In Windows 11, start with Microsoft’s Get Help printer troubleshooter. Microsoft’s general printer guide also covers restart, connection, device condition, and driver checks for Windows 10 and 11.
- If jobs remain stuck after those checks, reset the Print Spooler. Microsoft explains that the spooler manages the printing process and documents how to stop the service, clear queued spool files, and start it again in its troubleshooting guide. Follow the steps carefully; this is a more involved reset than cancelling a single job.
Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. The printer troubleshooting guidance covers Windows 10 and 11, but that does not mean Windows 10 remains supported.

macOS
- Open Print Centre and resume the printer or job if it is paused; delete a blocking errored job if needed.
- Confirm that the Mac and network printer use the same network, then test printing from another app.
- If printing still fails, check Apple’s or the manufacturer’s current software guidance for your printer model.

When to contact the printer manufacturer
If the queue is clear, the printer has no visible error, the connection is working, and multiple apps still cannot print, consult the manufacturer’s support page for the exact printer model and operating system. General troubleshooting cannot establish a model-specific cause, and control-panel steps vary by printer.
