What Opera’s eSIM does—and what it doesn’t
Opera’s travel eSIM is integrated into Opera for Android and powered by Holiday.com. It provides mobile data to the phone as a whole; it does not replace your existing phone number and is data-only. Once selected for mobile data, apps outside Opera can use its allowance too. The eSIM can be purchased through Opera for Android, not Opera Mini or Opera GX mobile. Check your phone and app before you travel
Opera’s setup requirements are Android 10 or newer, an eSIM-capable phone that is not carrier-locked, and the latest version of Opera for Android. If you are unsure whether your phone supports eSIM or is unlocked, check with your mobile operator. Do not assume compatibility from the phone’s model name alone.

- Connect your Android phone to stable internet.
- Open Opera for Android and tap the profile icon.
- Find eSIM, choose your destination and data amount, and review the displayed price and terms.
- If you choose a paid plan, complete the purchase, then follow the phone’s prompts to install the eSIM.
Opera says you can set it up at home before travel. Installing ahead of time means you can complete the process while you still have reliable internet access.

On arrival, prevent your regular SIM from roaming
- In your phone’s SIM or mobile-network settings, turn on Opera’s eSIM and select it as the mobile-data line.
- Turn off data roaming for your regular SIM. Opera specifically recommends this to avoid roaming charges from your home carrier.
Menu names and paths vary by phone, and Opera does not provide a single settings path for every handset. Selecting the Opera eSIM does not, by itself, guarantee that your carrier cannot charge you. Dual-SIM behavior, calls, texts and carrier settings differ; consult your phone maker or operator for controls specific to your setup.
Know what can consume the eSIM allowance
Because the eSIM connects the whole phone, background activity and any app using mobile data can draw from its finite allowance. Opera’s materials confirm whole-device coverage but do not quantify background use or give per-app usage steps for every Android version. Check your phone’s own data-usage settings if you want to identify which apps are using mobile data.
Check plan size, validity and price before buying
Opera lists paid plans of 3GB, 5GB and 10GB. Each is valid for 30 days from activation in the destination country or until the data runs out, whichever comes first. Prices vary by destination, plan size and local currency; Opera displays the price in the browser before payment. Check the current offer for your destination rather than relying on a fixed price quoted elsewhere. These terms are described in Opera’s announcement and the setup guide.

Complimentary data and eligible markets
Opera advertises 3GB of complimentary data valid for three days in selected markets, without requiring payment details or an email address. The offer markets listed in Opera’s launch materials are the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Poland. This is the list for the complimentary offer, not the full list of places where the eSIM can be used. Check Opera for current availability and terms.

Opera listed 47 eSIM destinations in its September 29, 2026 materials: Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Türkiye, United Kingdom and United States. Availability can change, so verify your destination in Opera when planning.

Opera says you can top up the same installed eSIM for another destination. A top-up requires an internet connection, so buy it before your current data runs out or while connected to stable Wi-Fi. The launch announcement says purchased plans can remain available to activate for up to one year after purchase; the plan’s usage-validity period starts when it activates in the destination country.
