Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf your Pixel keeps restarting at the Google logo and won’t reach Android, first try a safe restart; if it still loops, Google’s Fastboot and Recovery menus offer a factory reset as a last resort. That reset erases data stored on the phone, so check your backup situation before proceeding. An update appearing before the problem does not by itself prove the update caused it.
First, check whether the phone is frozen or actually looping
If the screen is frozen rather than repeatedly going dark and restarting, hold the power button for about 30 seconds to restart the phone, as Google recommends in its Pixel freeze guidance. If it continues cycling at the Google logo and never reaches Android, settings-based troubleshooting is not available; go to the Fastboot and Recovery steps below.

For ordinary restart controls, the button procedure depends on the Pixel model. Follow Google’s model-specific restart and crashing guidance rather than assuming one button sequence works across generations.

If Android stays open long enough, rule out software and accessory problems
These checks are useful only if the phone remains booted long enough to use Settings. Google recommends checking for Android and app updates, ensuring adequate free storage, and testing whether a downloaded app is causing instability. Its general troubleshooting guidance flags storage below 10% free as a possible source of problems; this is a general warning, not a statistic about boot loops.

- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
- Check updates and storage: Install available system and app updates if the phone is stable enough, and free space if storage is nearly full.
- Test Safe Mode: Safe Mode temporarily disables downloaded apps. If the phone works normally in Safe Mode, remove recently installed apps one at a time and restart to identify a possible cause.
- Remove accessories: Take off the case and disconnect external accessories that could press buttons or interfere with sensors.
Google’s steps for a phone that is restarting or crashing explain these checks. If the phone cannot stay on long enough to perform them, do not keep trying to navigate Android; move to Recovery instead.
Before using Recovery, understand what a factory reset deletes
A Recovery reset removes data stored on the phone. Google Pixel Phone Help states, “A factory data reset will remove all data from your phone.” That includes local data such as apps, photos, and music; do not assume unsynced files can be restored afterward. Google also warns that erasing a locked Pixel removes data from the device in its locked-phone guidance.

If possible, check that important data is backed up and that you can sign in to the Google Account associated with the phone before resetting. If preserving local data is more important than getting the phone running immediately, pause here and contact Google support or a repair provider to discuss options before erasing it. A reset is not guaranteed to resolve every boot loop.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Use Fastboot and Recovery to reset a Pixel that will not boot
Google’s manual Fastboot reset instructions distinguish between Pixel generations. Follow the sequence for your model; holding the buttons too long or using the wrong combination may simply restart the phone.
- Open Fastboot: On Pixel 6 and later, hold Volume down and Power for up to 30 seconds, until Fastboot appears. On earlier Pixel phones, hold Volume up and Power for up to 30 seconds.
- Select Recovery Mode: Use the volume buttons to highlight Recovery Mode, then press Power.
- Open Android Recovery: At the “No command” screen, hold Power, press Volume up, then quickly release both buttons.
- Choose the reset: In Android Recovery, use the volume buttons to select Wipe data/factory reset, then press Power. Select Factory data reset to confirm.
- Restart: After the reset completes, select Reboot system now.
Menu wording or behavior can vary, so consult Google’s current instructions for your model if the screen does not match. The reset erases local phone data, and there is no assurance that it will fix a hardware or other unresolved fault.

If the phone remains unusable after the supported software steps, contact Google Pixel support and check repair and warranty choices for your country and device. Availability and coverage vary by location and model. Before a repair, Google recommends backing up data where possible and removing the SIM; a repair that involves storage-affecting parts may still require data deletion. Repair Mode is intended to help protect personal data while an eligible phone is serviced, not to repair a boot loop. Google says eligibility requires Android 14’s December 2023 update or newer and at least 2 GB of available space, and the device must be able to enter the mode. Details are in Google’s pages on how Repair Mode works and using Repair Mode for repair services.

A Pixel Community post dated March 18, 2025 describes a Pixel 7 Pro repeatedly restarting after an update, but a community report is anecdotal and does not establish that the update caused the issue. Google’s published steps here provide general troubleshooting and reset guidance, not a universal update rollback or confirmed update-specific fix.
