If Instagram’s Poll sticker is greyed out or missing, there is no single confirmed cause. First update the app, check the full Stickers tray, and test a standard Story with a fresh draft. If the sticker is still unavailable, access may vary by account, country, or content type; these checks cannot guarantee that an account-side limitation will be removed.
Try these six checks when the Poll sticker is unavailable

Update Instagram
Install the latest Instagram version available for your device from its app store, then reopen the app and check the Story composer again. An update is a sensible first check, not a guaranteed fix. MakeUseOf’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking for an update when stickers are unavailable.

Search the full Stickers tray
In the Story editor, tap the sticker icon to open the Stickers tray. Look for Poll or use the tray’s search if it is available. Sticker order and visibility can change, so do not rely on it appearing in a particular position. Guiding Tech’s instructions cover finding the sticker in the tray.

Switch to a standard Story
If you started in another content composer or format, open the standard Story composer and check there. Sticker availability can vary by content type, so this helps determine whether the issue is tied to the format you were using. MakeUseOf and Guiding Tech distinguish Story creation from other formats.

Test a fresh Story draft
Start a new Story using simple media or a plain background, then open Stickers and check for Poll. If it appears in the new draft, the problem may be limited to the original draft; this test does not prove that a draft was damaged. MakeUseOf’s guidance recommends trying a fresh Story.

Close and reopen Instagram
Close the app, reopen it, and check the Story editor again. Restarting is a low-effort way to check for a temporary app problem, but it may not change sticker availability. MakeUseOf and Guiding Tech include restarting among their troubleshooting steps.

Report it if the sticker remains missing
If the Poll sticker is still unavailable after those checks, report the issue through Instagram’s in-app help tools. Describe exactly what happens and include your device, Instagram app version, the content format you tried, and the checks you completed. Sticker access may vary by user or account, country, and content type; the available guidance does not establish a universal eligibility rule. MakeUseOf’s troubleshooting coverage notes that availability can vary.

How to add a Poll sticker when it is available
- Open Instagram’s Story composer and choose or capture media, or start with a background.
- Tap the sticker icon and select Poll. If you do not see it immediately, search the Stickers tray if search is available.
- Enter a specific question and short answer choices, then position the sticker where it will not cover important content.
- Preview the Story and share it when it looks right.
Labels, sticker order, and controls can differ by app version, device, account, and country. Guiding Tech’s walkthrough describes the Story workflow. These steps explain how to use the sticker when it is available; they do not enable access when it is missing.

What these checks cannot establish
The available guidance does not confirm a single cause for a missing or greyed-out Poll sticker. It also does not substantiate claims that a particular capture mode, account type, cache condition, or age setting is responsible, or that changing one of those settings will restore access. Meta’s Stories sticker Help Center was not accessible for detailed eligibility guidance, so the precise availability rules remain unclear.
Meta’s May 3, 2024 announcement about new Stories stickers describes other stickers; it does not explain why Poll might be unavailable. It is not evidence of a Poll-specific fix.
